Screwfix

I was asked for “ID” when I arrived as the items I had ordered were “over £200”. I did not have my wallet as I had selected and paid for all the items on my phone. I was told repeatedly that it says so on the text. It does not - it says “Please bring your payment method with you and check-in on the app or in-store.” ID - which I did not have is a driving licence or something. I did the entire transaction on my phone - so my payment method is my phone, I had my phone on me which had the confirmation emails and texts. Other major retailers manage to cope with providing this as evidence of purchase for items significantly in excess of £200. I think Screwfix need to modernise a bit. As for the woman in charge, repeatedly and patronisingly telling me I should have brought something and how it’s on the text in a condescending tone were not helpful. She also said I needed to wait while she served another customer even though it was her colleague who asked her a question, not me. I was not once asked to show my email or text confirmation or what other ID I had on my phone - just lectured at like a naughty schoolgirl in front of other customers. Won’t be returning.

In the middle of an essential DIY job at home my existing cordless drill decided to permanently retire. This is a Saturday afternoon and I could become very unpopular unless I finished it to the satisfaction of “management”!! First port of call was the Screwfix App to see if I could find a suitable alternative at short notice and hopefully locally. My local store, Wetherby, did indeed have 1 item in stock. Thank you, thank you, I was able to make a really good value purchase. The drill, complete with 2 batteries and a charger comes in a very good protective case. What was even more pleasing was to find the batteries were charged and ready to use immediately. A quick read of the instructions and I am back on the case. Job completed before tea time and brownie points in credit. Never been so pleased to have a local branch of Screwfix.

I’ve waited a long time for the Screwfix app and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Opening the app logs me in instantly and remembers my chosen store which are both time savers as a regular customer of Screwfix. Searching for products is easy and the product pages show the remaining stock in your chosen store. The ‘My Orders’ tab allows you to quickly view your past purchases and includes a small image of the product(s) which is great for reordering when you forget what you ordered in the past (like I do)! Checkout is easy and an SMS message is sent soon after informing you that your order is ready for collection, providing your items are in stock. I do miss the Q&A section, which is very helpful when choosing a product, and hopefully the app will integrate this feature in the near future. Overall, I’m very happy with the new app and look forward to further updates. Thanks.
