Decided to come to 801 during happy hour, but didn’t do the happy hour specials, although they are great. The bartenders …notably Jainee went out of their way to come over to the extra “bar” seating outside of the bar. She was attentive and made the evening very enjoyable despite not sitting at the bar . I had the scallop appetizer they were delicious! Three large scallops, lightly wrapped in pancetta on a roasted red pepper sauce. They were cooked perfectly! I will look forward to returning! Oh, and it was pretty neat to see the person next to me ordered the Wagyu, and it comes with a certificate of authenticity!!! Great ambience loved the music tonight all around a great experience!

We love going to 801 mostly because of Andy the bartender. He is so attentive without being overwhelming. He’s so down to earth friendly and remembers people which is rare in Kansas. We are so SUPER excited that the bar is now more dim. It feels more like a Chicago steakhouse now. It used to be way to bright in the bar area, which made it way less cozy. Now I want to stay longer and drink more. I think that people overall will feel this way, but they may not verbalize it. They will just enjoy it. Thank you for hiring such a great bartender and for dimming the lights!!!

801 Steak & Chop in Des Moines is a fabulous steakhouse on a par with the great steakhouses of New York and Chicago. The service is top notch with a friendly, welcoming wait staff. The manager circulates to make sure your expectations are being met. The cuisine from appetizers through entrees is delicious. The Prime Rib is without equal. The wine list is comprehensive with moderately as well as higher priced wines to fit any budget. I was too full after Oysters Rockefeller, a tomato and onion salad and Prime Rib with creamed spinach to go for dessert, but I have no doubt dessert would have been just as great. While not cheap, the experience, service and great food make it “value received.”
