Ok, bottom line is that I love the way this works but I have grievances. The good: I love being able To order anything I want any time I want without having to flag anyone down. It’s incredible. The bad: this fundamentally changes the service industry. No one checks up on you to ask how everything is. Substitutions happen without asking. There is no single point of contact during a dining experience and multiple runners bring food to you. This should mean that staffing is reduced and everyone can have a larger percentage of the tip pool (assuming that it’s pooled tips). Close your tab though and it defaults to 25% tip? For who? I didn’t actually have anyone servicing me. This should both reduce costs and increase profit share but somehow I feel that unchecked capitalism has made the opposite of both happen.

I actually hate going to bars that don’t have TabbedOut now. I didn’t even realize I needed this until I had it. I’ve always dreamed of being able to type coors light and a coors light appears. This app makes it even easier. I just tap the coors light button and it appears. Awesome.

This app allows businesses to add a minimum tip to your bill even if you close out your tab. I bought a topo Chico (the only drink I ordered, $3.50) from a bar, gave the guy a dollar as a tip and then was charged an additional $2 through the app. I didn't authorize this tip, nor was it stated what the minimum tip is for a tab. Each bar should have to disclose what their minimum tip is before you pay, especially since it's not a walked tab. I'm glad this was only for a small bill, I couldn't imagine how much it would be had I gotten a couple of rounds. I'm deleting this app immediately and never using it again. There's so many bars in Austin, I don't need to patronize the ones that use this manipulative service. This happened at Bungalow on Rainey.
