I really like this app because it tells how long it would take to get a sunburn and it tells you whether you should apply sunblock. It also tells you how much outdoor time you need in order to get your daily vitamin D. As a photographer, I also like that it tells you the sunset time. Great app!
Overall, 4/5 rating. This app is off to a great start with a beautiful UI design and highly relevant information. It just needs minor backend adjustments to be a truly great, daily-use app. Great info and excellent interface design. However, there is a very annoying functional issue. If you don’t grant it permission to use your location then every time you launch the app it will flash an alert message warning you it doesn’t have location permissions. EVERY. TIME. That is terrible. Additionally, when I dismiss that alert, the app fails to automatically update and instead tells me it is offline. When I tap to manually initiate an update, it will then successfully update using the last known location and once again be a useful app. Developer: Please do not predicate app functionality on having access to location data. If current location data is unavailable, the app should fallback to using the last known location and continue to function normally. It should not fail and require a manually-initiated refresh. Please do not ever use a warning alert that prevents use of your app. That’s hostile to your users and, more importantly, prevents people from using your app. Why would you do anything that stops people from being able to use your app? The purpose of an app is to be used. Find a less intrusive way to let users know the app doesn’t have location permissions. Better yet, ask one time upon initial setup and if the user doesn’t give permission then let it go and don’t ask again. This app is off to a great start and it’s 90% there. This is already my preferred UV app despite its frustrating issues. It’s obvious the developer put forth serious effort and thoughtful design. Hoping for some minor fixes so I can see it be a truly great app.
Update for v1.3: What a great update! Very reliable syncing with the watch now. It's now replaced my previous UV app in my watch dock. The update has a ton of useful info and thank you for adding Fahrenheit! I upgraded to Pro and don't regret it. Would love to see the complication come back and it's a five-star app! As a pale person that loves the sun, this is invaluable. Keep up the great work! The aesthetics are good, the information is delivered well, like the option to add skin type. However, it doesn't update on my watch. Just says "open main app" and when I open the phone app, it does nothing. Also the nothing shows up at all on the small complication at all. S2, on 3.2.2. Would also like the option for Fahrenheit. I would upgrade to pro with those fixes.
