I've recently been tasked with organizing and cataloguing a massive collection of gold & silver age comics, and had been looking for a solution for building a master list of all the books, and this one has been by far the clear frontrunner for apps like this. I've tried several others, and Key Collector has the most thorough data on each book out of any others, and an incredibly intuitive filtering system that lets you find exactly which books you need to find quickly and accurately! I cannot overstate how awesome their search engine is. Basically if you can't find the exact book you're looking up within about 10 seconds, it's probably not in the database yet. The amount of info on keys that is available here is of course one of the strongest features, and is more comprehensive than any price guides I've come across. The updated lists are fun to read too and the randomizer is super cool. This app has gone from unknown to indispensable to me in a matter of weeks. Keep up the great work guys! Definitely worth the subscription price!
The older basic version was better. Now with the scan to search feature the app freezes after 3 scans. You have to close the app to scan more. When the scan works and shows the details for the scanned book, let's say I want to click on the series and see more issues. You can't because this feature seldomly works when arrived from the scan feature. You have back out to the app main page and search the series from there. Next, pricing is not consistent. Direct Editions cover A's are always the main book show, which shows suggested market values. Let's say this comic has a newsstand variant, and it shows the current market value for the direct edition is $50. Ok, so then you click on "show variants," and the newsstand shows as $4. Obviously the Newsstand should be higher, but across all other titles the newsstand 90% of the time will be cover price compared to the direct edition. This goes for all other variants, unless the variant is considered the main key. Here is another big glitch. Let's say I added comics to my collection 4 years ago. The values in my collection stay frozen in time at the values that existed in the app 4 years ago. Even though a separate search in the app shows the comic at a higher value now. Lastly, support emails to support about these glitches go unanswered. Yes, you receive an email saying a case has been opened, but you will never hear anything again. Clearly since every glitch I have ever reported has never been fixed, no one is looking at these cases.
I find myself humbled often mixing with Comic Industry Professionals regularly & Innovation in our Industry is a regular topic. While 2018 has been a year of Growth & Change, with many of the biggest names settling into new positions with publishers; we see all types of change taking place and it’s exciting! The introduction of Multiple Media formats growing so fast, Web Comics, Kickstarters, Disney’s acquisition of FOX, DC Streaming, Disney Streaming, speculation markets driven by decisions made and titles optioned, not to mention new indie companies springing up daily, it the Key Collector App that keeps me at the top of my game! I’ve seen the app grow from an incredible product to something I can’t live without! It’s one of the first things I do everyday, check the new specs, hot keys, what’s new, and the addition of new features regularly have kept the Key Collector both Useful & quite frankly, Awesome! Key Collector is my Killer App of 2018! Make it yours! And if your not a subscriber; I highly recommend taking advantage of the added features, it’s more than a bargain! Thanks Nick!
