I am not compelled to complete Haak. The game does not rely on the grappling hook concept as much as one might expect. It is a basic game in the Metroidvania genre (Metroidvania games have a maze-like design) with some interesting story/design choices that resemble current times rather than the past or future. This makes the game somewhat interesting. Technically, Haak does take place in the future from 2025 when this review was written. The problem is that the controls do not live up to the interesting elements of Haak. I must have gotten 7-10 hours through the game before deleting it do to boredom. Two-dimensional games with digital circle pads, regular circle pads, or control sticks feel like a waste of an opportunity every single time.
Solid game. Probably one of the better games on iOS. Top ten in my book for mobile games. Doesn't have that mobile game feeling. Great soundtrack and sounds. Great storyline. Very good graphics and effects. However it was far too easy in my opinion when it came to the bosses, coming from years of gaming (grown up playing nes, super nes, pc, etc) but for someone newer to gaming might find it hard. They could of added more fighting than platforming. I am also a snob when it comes to gaming, and realize that not everyone that is gonna play this will have a controller. Other than that its a really well done game that the developers should be proud of. Look forward to more games by the developers.
Iโve been a huge fan of the Metroidvania genre and this game really surprises me with the high quality. This console-quality game just check all the boxes a good Metroidvania game should have: * Great storyline and settings * Well-crafted maps and level design * Smooth actions and controls * Huge variety of skills/moves to unlock * Lots of collectibles Other than the points mentioned above, it also features a quest system that you can get quests from NPCs or during explorations, and these quests are not just beat these monsters or collect these items. These quests are actually supported by stories and help you progress the game or understand more about the settings. I would highly recommend this game to any Metrovania lovers and would highly recommend to play it with a physical controller as it might become challenging in later stages of the game when you need precise inputs at a really fast pace.
