Let’s be real, this is a tough time in history to seek human connection of any kind, let alone find a life companion. Dating is a pain on any website, and this one is no different — women can get contacted by men they don’t like, men can send out dozens of messages to no response, and both can get ghosted even after an apparently good date. (My advice, ignore the cold feet and go on date #2 if there were no real red flags.) But at least on CatholicMatch and other Catholic sites you greatly increase your odds of finding someone with the same faith, values and expectations. (The “do you believe these teachings” prompts were especially helpful for weeding out non-starters.) I found the app very usable and the self-description prompts fitting, if a little trivial (though how deep do you want to get in your first introduction?). Also, you’re going to have to bite the bullet and pay for a usable membership, especially if you’re a man, since we customarily send the first message. Personally I think it’s really stupid to complain that you can’t use all the features for free, when real people are working on the app and you’re trying to find your spouse for life on their platform. Ultimately, though, it’s not going to work if you don’t pray to find your spouse, and possibly do penance if things are looking really bleak. My fiancée and I met shortly after we prayed to St. Joseph around the same time in Lent; I suggest you ask him, St. Raphael, or another patron saint of marriage to make your search successful. May the Lord bless your going out, and your coming in.
This review is only about the app—not the site. I deleted the app after only two days. In order to see who “viewed” my profile, it was unusable. I would receive an email indicating someone had viewed my profile, click on it end it would take me directly to a list of those who viewed my profile. After downloading the app it would go directly to the app and whatever page was last opened, and if the app was closed, it would take me to the home page which only showed me the newly joined, with the option to view all. While the help feature said go to the homepage and scroll to “views”, there was absolutely no such option on the app homepage. There is also no way to view those whom I had “liked” on the app, while on the website it was quite easy by clicking on “Messages, I would then see a feature showing me the option to view those whom I had previously liked. On neither site was I able to unlike someone I had already “liked❤️” which was unfortunate because I liked someone by mistake & broke the poor man’s heart.
I’ve been on multiple dating apps to include Hinge, Bumble, eharmony, Christian Mingle and Catholic Match. It hurts to say, but Catholic Match is one of the worst I’ve ever been on. I paid for the premium, and it was not user friendly. It had a confusing front page with random photos of people and no rhyme nor reason to it. The search feature would not give you all the people from a particular area. For example, searching through LA, I would get a specific number of women within my search. However, I would link up with some one who would fit what I’d been looking for and she never appeared in my searches. I just happened to be lucky enough that she found me. Also, the potential match search engine is incredibly flawed. Where as other dating apps, like Hinge, learn over time what your preferences are and adapt to sending you more of them, Catholic Match sends you “potential matches” that don’t fit what you’ve been searching for and are loosely based off of your personality test you take when creating your profile. I also am not a fan of the massive cost for a dating app that other fellow Catholics have been avoiding as well for these reasons. A lot of people are on there who would like to chat but have to pay to unlock the ability to see who likes them or begin conversing. Let’s be honest, most people are not going to wait two weeks to unlock the ability and are going to move on. And most aren’t going to pay $30 a month for a dating app with these flaws. I’d like a Catholic dating app that is free to use for its most basic functions, user friendly, and well connected.
