Bosch eBike Connect

This app is designed for people who use their bikes as an exercising toy; there also needs to be optimization for commuters who need transportation orientated features. The app has a German corporate feel, like a nav system from 20 years ago or a low-budget nav app from 10 years ago. Coming from a massive OEM manufacturer, you can tell Bosch did the minimum. Which is unfortunate because they could’ve easily made this a great app. For starters, you can *only* add the home and work shortcuts, two of them, that’s it, which is ironic seeing that they dedicated an entire menu for shortcuts. There are no Home Screen shortcuts. The app should default to the map upon opening. There should be an option to bypass the legal disclaimer. It requires an unnecessary press. There should be an option for selecting a default option, scenic vs. fast, for home screen shortcuts. Apart from the clunkiness, after starting the route, the nav system is well thought out for bike use. It doesn’t give directions or labels, but that’s precisely what you need while riding. The only downside is that the app crashes half the time regardless of the phone battery charge By the way, the Kiox nav should show ETA; no one in America cares about knowing miles. Additionally, there should be an app user interface for modifying the pages on the kiox. It’s archaic to have to use the bike handle controls. The widget is also designed poorly; it shows us battery percent, which is good; and a “distance this month/record”, which should be replaced with the range metric instead. The sad thing is Bosch won’t do anything; they’ll just release their next hardware and lock us out from new features so we will have to upgrade hardware

I love my Bosch-powered Trek Domane, but this app is really quite frustrating, as is the Kiox interface with external devices. Firstly, to see activities in the app, you have to have location services set to “always”. Really? Why does Bosch need to know my location even when I’m not on the bike? Other GPS apps (Garmin, Gaia, etc.) record activities just fine with location set to “when using the app”, so there’s got to be a way Bosch could do that too. As a result, I need to toggle location services for the app on an off every time I ride or want to view past rides, to protect my location privacy. The elevation tracking features on the Kiox are horrible too. The Kiox and app track ascent and descent during a ride, but is unable to provide an ascent total- really? Bosch says this is only on the Nyon, but come on- if you can graph my ascent and descent during a ride, why is a simple total from that data not available just because I have a Kiox? And lastly, while not really an app issue, the Kiox integration with other devices, such as my Garmin Fenix 6 and Edge 830 is non-existent. The Kiox connects with my Fenix, but won’t show heart rate. On the Edge 830, there are many eBike data fields that would be great to record in the Garmin app directly from the Kiox, but Bosch apparently blocks any such connections with external devices. There are many forums asking for Kiox integration with other devices, and complaining about lack of features like ascent totals, but Bosch continues to ignore this input. I would expect better from such a well-respected company.

Love the app as it syncs data from my NYON easily. However, there are some overall data issues. E.g. when exporting data to Strava, BOSCH eBike Connect will show me 150W average user power and after export, Strava will show 33W avg user power. Also, when exporting data in GPX format from the portal and while selecting the summary data incl all segments of the day, the portal will only export the 1st segment. I’ll use the app for sync from NYON for the most part. Everything else is pretty much done through the web portal. Also, wished I could switch metric and imperial. Love NYON and wished there would be a better community engagement from BOSCH’s UX and Dev teams.
