I have logged a couple hours in this app. I have really enjoyed it and paid the 99 cents for the extra feature. I know it’s a small team who built this and I didn’t mind shelling out the extra dollar. The running count “speed counting” drill is great! I would love to see more of this kind of stuff in the app. For the basic “Training” drill I would like to be able to check the running count. Learning how to count cards, I forget the running count a lot. And that makes it impossible to get a true count. A more experienced player may not have these issues. But a newbie like me would really benefit from an optional feature that would provide a running count in basic training. It would also be cool to have more data after each shoe. Currently it just shuffles at the end of the shoe. I think it would be helpful to see some analytics of my play. Overall, this app does what it says it does. It’s a great blackjack app in general. And you don’t have to suffer through ads like other apps. You can change the deck count and I enjoy that. It feels a lot more genuine to play than any other BJ on the App Store. I would recommend to anyone looking to understand the game of 21 at a deeper level. Or a casual player who wants to escape the ads and learn simple basic strategy.
The interface and user experience is good but it needs a setting to practice specific subsets of basic strategy. There is wayyyy to much variation for a beginner. You need a setting where the “deck” constantly forces the same hand with a different dealer up-card to practice what to do with a hard 12 and dealer is showing *whatever* and that’s how to memorize what to do. And then when I start getting those right most of the time I can select something different like hard 13 or whatever and practice what to do with different dealer up cards, etc. Then I can turn more and more of these on until it eventually gets to where the app currently is, practice real black jack with a normal deck and now that I have the basic strategy memorized I can actually try to apply it.
First off the app is very fun as far as blackjack apps go. The tips and the ability to correct yourself when you make an error in strategy is very helpful. And I believe it could be an extremely useful tool. But something feels very off about the way the computer wins a large amount of it’s hands. It doesn’t feel organic based on a shuffle and it’s almost as if you can call exactly how it’s going to beat you. But this is true for almost every single digital blackjack game and not just this one. It almost feels as if it’s not drawing cards in a set order based on a random shuffle. It feels like it’s 3 sided dice roll after you press Stand based on the win percentage for any given situation for the set rules. (For example, if you draw a 20 and with the RNG you roll a loss, it’ll pull cards to equal 21 if they’re available). This would still equal out to the same percentage of win over the long term but not feel as organic and feels like you just can’t win even with good hands. If win, then dealer>player If lose, then player>dealer or dealer bust If push, then player=dealer That’s how it feels to me personally. I could be very wrong about it, and if I am wrong then I will accept it, but the absolute godly luck the AI gets frustration it causes makes me want to delete the app entirely. I never have this kind of luck in Live dealer blackjack online or in casino, but even the blackjackist app does this same thing. None of these apps feel realistic.
