I LOVE the iGrill2 that I have! It’s really easy to use and I have bought many of these as gifts to give because I think it is so awesome. I love the app to as it is really straightforward and easy to use. Why 4 stars not 5? Since the recent update of the app, I am having trouble setting a grill temperature timer/alert. There is a dial that used to be easy to turn in order to make the target temperature higher or lower but now I can’t turn it more that a few degrees each way. It seems the problem is that the whole screen moves with my finger (like I am scrolling) instead of just the dial moving. Maybe it is just me but I never had any problems with this before the app updated on my phone. 5 out of 5 for the product and app when this problem is fixed.
I’ve been using this with the Weber Branded iGrill 2 mostly with my 22.5” Weber Smokey Mountain Smoker. First off this does the basics well. And gets the job done. At $100 I would hope for a few more features. One thing is to be able to edit a temp during a cook or be able to set alarms based on temp. For example I’m smoking a brisket, and my finish temp needs to be 205 degrees. I would like to be able to set an alarm when it reaches 170 to remind me to take wrap the brisket and return to the smoker to finish at 205F. Also ditch the Bluetooth and go WiFi, so I’m not be tied to Bluetooth range for a 14hr smoke. The colored silicon grips that come with the temp probes is a good idea problem is they crack and crumble to piece after a few uses. Maybe they are not meant to go in the smoker itself, I could be using them wrong. I would give this device a lower rating but Weber Customer Service makes up for it. You will not find better customer service period. Loyal Weber customer for life while they keep taking care of customer and standing behind their products. UPDATE: I started messing with the App and found the edit cook button. It’s just not available at the Graph View Page. But the feature is there and doesn’t reset my line graph after editing. I read in a response that Weber recommendations you move the silicon colored indicators to the outside of the grill/smoker. I have had mine for 2 years and have yet to have a probe fail. I would Love to be able to edit the Probe 1-4 names but still a Good Product and even better Customer Service.
After my previous scathing review and frustration with this app since the Weber takeover, and the rendering of my original iGrill device obsolete with a recent app update, I must say that Weber’s response and support has been outstanding. They took my harsh comments in stride and handled the issue promptly, sending me a new device that is compatible with their updated app. All of their responses were prompt and courteous. The new device and app have worked fine on the first two uses, however, I must say that the app could still use some tweaking. The original iGrill app gave you a choice of alarms, which was handy as you could pick one that might be easier to hear in a noisy environment. I find the current chirping alarm with no other options to be a little annoying. It would also be nice to be able to adjust the target temp on the fly instead of having to start over, if you decide that you or a guest would like their food a little more done. Fortunately, the graph doesn’t start over in the case that you have to do that. I could live with those annoyances, however, if it means that I don’t run into surprises every time I use the app and see that the latest update forces me to have to do or relearn something just to throw some meat on the grill. Again, thanks to Weber for their outstanding support.
