App Profile: Pit Boss Grills

I have been a Pit Boss fanboy for the last 12 years. I have now owned 5 different grills/smokers from them, loving to cook with each one. I purchased my most recent smoker from them so that I would be able to use my phone to connect to, control and monitor my smoker. When I first used the app, it worked OK with little connection issues but fast forward 6 months and now I can hardly open the app. I either get an indefinite splash screen, 10ish minute loading times or a connection failed error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application a few times with the same outcome. I tried my phone, iPhone 16 pro max and my iPad Pro, same errors. My WiFi and internet connection works perfectly. I would have expected a better quality application for the price that we pay for the hardware. As a long time user and fanboy of Pit Boss, I have lost a little faith in the brand over this. My friend uses a Traeger brand smoker and his app works flawless. Come on Pitt Boss, step up and hold your app developer accountable for this. With the taste of using an app to control my grills, it is hard to not have this feature work properly. I would hate to have to switch brands over something like this as your hardware has not failed me yet. 1 Star review for now but I will update my review once the app starts to work, and more importantly, work consistently. Sincerely, a disappointed long time user.

***BUG FOUND***I found that my smoker starts fine but when it connects to the app it seems to start skyrocketing automatically. You wouldn’t know this because on the app it shows the set to temperature that you chose but when you click into the scroll Ui for the temperature it’s at the max (in my case 500). This needs to be investigated as I suspect it happens to other consumers as well. ***original review***App does what it’s supposed to do. I see many people complain about how when the grill disconnects they have to restart the app many times. For those of you struggling, simply press the back arrow on the top left when the grill fails to connect and then press control grill again. That should reconnect your grill without having to restart the app many times. I also noticed the app cannot set the grill at certain temperatures that the grill itself has on the pid controller. They’re all so widely spaced? I’d like it if we could type in a temperature instead of select from a limited temperature list. I would also like for the app to send push notifications to my phone when a meat probe is within range of a certain temperature instead of just lowering the temp to 180. I would also like a feature to turn on and off the 180 according to preferences. Thank you for having this tool. Please take the time to make it exceptional.

Update!!!!! I cannot believe that you guys would drop an app update and not even try to launch the thing before making it live. It will not go past the boot screen. I give you guys so much money on utensils and accessories alone you guys should be able to build an app that actually functions. I am now on owning this thing for over a year now. And you guys still cannot figure out the app. The smoker is absolutely phenomenal and delivers awesome cuisines. But you guys cannot figure out how to write software to save your life you should outsource this to somebody different. Holy absolute crud… I’ve owned my pit boss grill for about 7 months now. Customer service is amazing. Grill is amazing. Cooks are phenomenal! Your app is absolutely trash. I have been trying to save recipes since I originally downloaded it. Not one saves when you close the app. It has been updated 3 times since I got the grill. Still having this problem. I chat with support once a month about this and they say we know… sorry. Now you can’t search the recipes they have without the app force closing each time you hit the search button. Originally the app had a built-in timer that would not work. They did finally fix that. It is insane to me that you guys are a national company, but you cannot figure out how to create very simple functions on your application that work.
