WAX: Social & Authentic Dating

While there’s a community aspect underneath that makes it feel like there’s something more than a gratuitous money grab here, the UI needs work. Browsing is awkward and requires lots of clicks in unexpected ways. In order to “pass” on someone, you have to dig into their profile by clicking (the UI don’t offer you an “x” at the top level), but you don’t have to in order to “like” (💙) them. This is weird and unintuitive. When you “like” someone, you have to manually scroll to the next person in the queue. Why? You can’t contact them again, so it should automatically advance. It does advance when you “pass” on someone. Why should “liking” be different? These are strange design choices and affect usability significantly. I get frustrated using it, frankly. It also seems the community isn’t that large and I’m in the largest city in the country, where you’d expect it to be large. Perhaps they’re new and growing, which is fine; you have to start somewhere, but they need product help. It’s awfully clunky atm. I also “boosted” myself for 12 hours for $6 and got crickets. I believe I’m not unattractive and my profile is somewhat interesting (although they should allow them to be longer) so I’m assuming the ratio of men to women is quite lopsided. Hopefully with time it all improves. Given Feeld’s disastrous relaunch in December there’s a huge vacuum for other apps to take advantage of.

In theory this is a great idea but unfortunately it’s not really LGBTQ+ friendly (unless you’re a woman then it appears to be strongly encouraged). Theres no way to search by orientation so you can spend eons looking for other queer people and if you’re anything other than a straight guy be prepared for some possible hostility no matter how friendly you are. Yes there is a filter by orientation but let’s say you filter by bisexual, it will produce couples that has one bisexual and possibly (usually) one heterosexual For example if one was looking for a couple where the male half is bisexual, this is not possible. Same if you’re looking for a couple where both partners are a specific orientation.
