Surplife

I have permanent outdoor lighting installed and this is the app the contractor set me up with. There is nothing likable about it. It is not particularly intuitive or flexible as a controller. It’s actually quite primitive compared to a variety of smart device apps I have (Hue, Wyze, MyQ). Surplife seems to assume that I want wild and crazy patterns and motions for my outdoor lights. I don’t. Nor do most people I know who have lights outside. We want a little more subtly and class with the ability to easily customize. Customizing with Surplife is not easy, flexible, or intuitive, and you cannot save everything as a usable scene, particularly in the ‘scribble’ mode. That is just bad, amateur level app development and programming. All in all, this is pretty clunky and built like something you might use 20 years ago in app offerings. This is not a first class lightning controller. I really dislike it! Update: The developer contacted me and asked for screen shots, videos, and greater detail of my concerns. That appears to be their cut-n-paste response. Complete nonsense! It’s pretty simple and previously stated clearly. Make the app more flexible and user friendly. Check out other smart light apps to see how it is done. Particularly, allow the “scribble” mode TO BE SAVED AS A SCENE so I can cleanly customize my lights and not be stuck with the terrible default scenes which are wild and crazy. Also, clean up the app formatting so it has a cleaner look (for example “Thurs” is truncated in the scheduling button. That’s a bad visual and poor attention to detail.) This might have the potential to be a good app, but it is nowhere close - just as so many other reviewers have stated.

We have permanent outdoor lighting which requires this 3rd party app. Wish we could use something else… anything else. The app is very confusing. You can create presets and favorites, but if your light sections (i.e. the separate house peaks) don’t fall exactly into the way the app divides up the light sections (ie every x number of lights), then you can’t do anything creative. For example, we have 3 peaks on the front of our house. I want each peak a different color or only the corner lights on for safety. My choices are everything the same color, everything a different color (like christmas lights), or switching the color based on a certain number of bulbs per section which results in the color switching in the middle of the peak. You can do a “scribble” to set it exactly the way you want (per bulb) but the app doesn’t recognize that as a favorite, so can’t be used in a schedule. Not to mention, when i do have the schedule turned on, i was told that it would default to the last used setting (which it does not). Rather it keeps returning to all on, bright white, which is against my hoa rules, so if i want to turn the lights on a program, i have to manually set them every time.

It works great. I love the app. I’ve used it for about a year now my LED lightbulbs, but the one thing is. Whenever one light is new and it connects the other one that’s older stops working even though when the other one wasn’t working, the older one was still working other than that if this could fix and if it’s just a bug great. This could be fixed and I think you would love it even more ! Overall great app everybody should get it.
