Unlike most dating apps where you can set preferences like age, height, and distance, S’more is so concerned with focusing on setting you up with like minded people that it ignores these other crucial features. Each day you get a small list of people to talk to. You don’t get to see what they look like but if you have common interests you can talk and eventually unlock their photos. The problem is it doesn’t tell you where these people are, so you could start talking to someone and find out they don’t live near your town, city, or even state. What’s the point? Also, you’d think for an app that’s trying to match people based on common interests they’d let you pick very specific interests out of a huge list. But no. There’s only a handful of things to choose from and they’re super vague like “art” or “tv”. If you like a specific show, or type of show like anime, or a certain band or music artist, too bad because all you’ll see is if another user likes “music” or “art.” Way too vague to know if this person likes the same type of things you do. Between that and most of my matches living hours away or even out of state, this app is totally pointless.
I will admit i was skeptical at first, but after i gave S'more a try i have never looked back. I soon found out what all the hype was about and realized the challenges of dating were finally put into a fun and easy way to meet new people. The ability to share media content: voice clips, music, videos and so much more was the key to learning about someone's personality vs. just looking at their pix. It gave me the sense that i was meeting quality people over mismatched quantity people like on some of the other dating sites out there. Its intriguing to find people on your same level who aren't trying to waste your time.
I love the concept of getting to like someone before you see them. As a woman on the internet it’s a refreshing idea to have someone like you as a person. But the execution is really, really lacking. Limited political orientations/religions - something else = apolítical or not religious which is quite reductive for an app to get to know people? Sexuality next to number of siblings?? I’m pretty shameless and even I balked at my profile proudly toting “Two siblings. Bisexual.” And for an app that wants for people to get to know each shouldn’t there be some moderation on one word/nonsense answers for prompts? Verifying identity is a nice touch, but the lack of quality verification may kill this app before it ever has a chance to live :( The above issues would be negligible but the limited selection of daily matches mixed with the fact that the ten profiles were literally awful, like so awful it actually made me miss Tinder... an app that I deleted in 2019 for being a hot pile of garbage.. I don’t have a single fond memory from my years on Tinder so I hope that really illustrates my feelings for the selection that was presented to me on this platform. I think if there’s no quality, there should at least be a higher quantity and maybe mix it up a little. All of my matches were men despite me being open to everything. Three stars for the concept though.
