Epic story of hope and fortitude in the face of impeding doom. Follows the classic King of Dragon Pass in terms of gameplay - a mix of strategy, role-playing, and roguelike. Allows imports of saves from Six Ages 1, in case you want to continue from there. High replay value. Perfect for iOS. Overall highly recommended.
I wrote this review a couple of days ago, but apparently it never went through >:( This game was an outstanding sequel to 2019’s Ride Like the Wind. With the ability to use your old save file to continue your clan’s legacy from the first game was so cool, I really felt like my current clan learned and instilled values and lessons their ancestors made in the first Six Ages game. Lights Going Out focuses much more on survival with Chaos on the rise. You may able to push them back a little in the beginning, but eventually they’ll wear you down, so the goal is to just survive until the end, seemingly giving you multiple ways to do it. I felt that way even more so than I did in RLTW. It’s also MUCH longer than the first game, giving you ample time to explore your options (and also to literally explore the world) on surviving against chaos. It’s about as long as a Long Game in King of Dragon Pass, though it does give you the option to shorten your run in the beginning. The music and the art also improved significantly. I played dozens of playthroughs in the first game and I felt like RLTW only had 4 or 5 songs, but Lights Going Out has a theme song for almost every occasion and character. And although I do appreciate the art in the first game, the art here is much more detailed (possibly for lore reasons, along with higher budget). All in all, the IOS version is a steal for $10 giving you around 9-15 hours in a single run through depending on how much you read!
But in a fantastic land of OZ awesome mommy loves you good way. It is good. Lovingly curated contents and authentic interaction in a somewhat strange format, like an interactive novel but with a lot of freedoms that makes sense and often times lead you to crazy twists and turns. You really need to spend a little bit of time to love it, but boy does it deserve your love. Like I said, such a niche experience. Also, lots of roleplaying if you are into this stuff
