RetroFix - Old Picture Restore

I have been working with this app for quite some time, and I was really satisfied with the result. This changed with the fall 2025 update. The “recreate” option was taken out of the app, because AI recreation of a severely damaged image is now supposedly achieved by using the “colorize” button. The results this app produces now are simply horrible, and subscribing to this downgraded version of a formerly really good photo restoration app is really not worth it anymore. Due to the significantly worse restoration results I am seeing since the update, I will cancel my subscription for this now qualitative substandard app. This is really disappointing, but luckily there are competitors out there that now by far outperform this merely mediocre app. While I recommended this app before, I now recommend to possible future subscribers to find a better quality app and not waste their money on this one.

I just downloaded this app to see if it would work as well as it seemed. I am only using the free version so I exceeded my limit for today. But I have to say that I was blown away by the remarkable change in some of the features. I have a photo that is a copy of another one that is over 100 years old. I had tried numerous apps in the past to retouch the picture but was not close at all as to how the picture looked originally. In another, the original photo had so many torn spots that there wasn’t much left of the picture. It also turned out pretty well. Then I decided I might as well colorize a black and white photo. It worked quite well too. Now I think I’ll have to decide whether I want to pay the fee for a year or if I want to pay the 9.99 every month. However, beware if you decide to invest because the charge is auto renewed unless you make the change in settings to discontinue the auto renewal.

I use this app for a few days. It was working fine now all of a sudden I download a picture to the app and as soon as it’s done fixing it, it only shows me the picture for like a half a second and then it’s gone. I’ve tried it over and over and over and it just keeps doing that one second I get to see the picture and then it’s gone, and I paid for this
