Well…going to update my review to reflect my new concerns. Unfortunately, not only has nothing changed (infrequent updates, undelivered promises, etc.), new ones continue to pop up. Now the app is buggy and inconsistent, so it is even less recommendable than before. Unfortunately this leaves us with an app only worthy of 1 star. I would love to reverse this decision should Silvio bring this app to what was promised, but in the absence of that, it’s not worth your money - stick to classic or another RSS/news reader app. 4+ months without an update is pretty disappointing when there are many promised and incomplete features. The developer once again ‘recreated’ the app (which may be true), for I believe now the 5th time, with a new shiny subscription model (past versions were new one-time purchases) for the app to work. With this subscription, it was promised to have more frequent updates with a stream of frequent new features along the way. Unfortunately, that hasn’t come true, and is disappointing for those of us that paid more in advance to help spur that investment in development. I’m a fan of Silvio’s work and development, but I’m afraid he hasn’t lived up to his promises with this one. Until that changes, I suggest you save your money.
Reeder has been my favorite feed reader for years, but I’ll admit that this update left me confused at first. It felt like it was trying too much, and I didn’t really understand its purpose. That was until early this summer when I took a long, hard look at my usage of the internet, social media, and how I was consuming information. I decided that I was worn out by being inundated with “recommendations” and opinions that I genuinely didn’t care about. This redesign has helped me collect, filter, and organize the information and content I genuinely care about while cutting the cruft and not putting myself at risk of being lured by algorithms trying to goad me down a rabbit hole that I don’t actually want to go down. This app has definitely helped me save my sanity by helping me take control of the information I’m seeing. I just wish the developer would bring back the OLED Black theme from previous versions.
I used to use the old Reeder on my iPad in college back in 2012 and it was my go to for everything, I used it for collecting all of the noise on the Internet and putting it into one place, and then the whole online news and RSS feed industry sort of shifted into a different direction with social media, and I never stopped missing the old foundation of Reeder. I’m so astoundingly excited that this new updated version is back on my phone, I can guarantee that this is gonna be my go to for collecting everything in one place, and I love how clean, sleek and simple this app is. I also love that the developer is putting a lot of heart and soul into the app And while there is a subscription payment model it’s fairly cheap and affordable, and it feels like a fair trade for a quality stand-up app. I’m looking forward to seeing the new updates that the developer is working on to improve the app overtime and it sounds like they are really taking into account honest feedback. It took me about 30 seconds to decide that I would go ahead and pay for the subscription because the app is just that good right out of the box.
