Proton Authenticator

This has been the best Authenticator app that I’ve personally used (and I’ve used several). Works very well for everything you can ask for with this kind of app and I love the peace of mind it brings with knowing they’re not harvesting unnecessary personal data. I’m not a fan of the fact that the encryption keys for windows OS desktop app is stored locally…defeats the purpose in my eyes for privacy and security, hoping that’s updated in the future. I also am hopeful for it to fully integrate/sync with proton pass eventually if you choose to opt into that. I’d recommend the use of this app to anyone.

I spent a long time looking for a company that could build a secure, easy-to-use authenticator app, and Proton absolutely nailed it. Okta looks polished and offers push notifications like Duo, but switching phones is more of a hassle than it should be. Google Authenticator does not give me the same easy access across all my devices that Proton does, which is a huge advantage for Proton. Apple Passwords is excellent when biometrics are involved and works well for OTPs, but when it comes to accessing and managing OTP codes, Proton Authenticator is simply easier and more convenient to use. It is simple, secure, and straightforward — exactly what I wanted.

This is a really nice Authenticator app, especially since it can sync with a desktop version in multiple ways. Not many Authenticators do that. The problem with this Authenticator is that it is too easy accidentally delete an account from your list with an accidental swipe. There is no need to for such a simple method of deletion on an Authenticator. It is not like you delete multiple items per day like email. The delete function should be very deliberate and have a confirmation step. Fix that and this would be about the best Authenticator currently available.
