Photos & Slideshow PixFolio

This is a great slideshow program. It’s what I’ve been needing for some time, given how poorly the Apple Photos slideshow works for iPad. My only complaint is, once the slideshow starts, I cannot stop it unless I exit the program completely. I would rather not do that. I would prefer for the controls to show up once I tap the screen and see a control for pausing. That doesn’t appear. Instead, all I see on the far left is an arrow allowing me to exit the slideshow, and on the right, there is a button to airplay it, another button to share, a “like” button, and an “info” button. That’s it. There is no control allowing me to merely pause it so that I can resume from where I left off. If the app had that, I would give it 5 stars instead of 4.

It WORKS as it should. What seems simple, few developers get right. All I wanted was a basic slideshow that would 1) Display EVERY image in the folder or album 2) Show the image as the FULL RESOLUTION of the original image 3) Be able to control the amount of time between slides 4) Set a simple transition between slides. I tried, on and off, for years to use AppleTVs built in Slideshow feature but it would NEVER display every image in the album, it did display full resolution. Other digital picture frame apps I tested will NOT show the FULL RESOLUTION of the original image, even when you alter the settings for high resolution they don’t show the full resolution 4:4:4 Chroma Subsampling that PixFolio is capable of showing. It matters, PixFolio images are super sharp, with close up detail. The interface could be improved, feels redundant, a bit confusing, but it works and gets the job done. The developer is very responsive and frequently updating the app.

It has been absolutely invaluable to me and I will continue to recommend it with 5 stars even if it comes out that the developer is a serial killer that plays with the bodies or something. I don’t know what it is about this simple combination of features that is just completely lacking in every other photo storage or viewing app I could find, but I have never even bothered to use or look at any others again after finding this app. I am truly blessed to have found this little gem.
