Onkyo Remote 3

2026 April 28: This app is working perfectly for me, in controlling my Onkyo HT–RC360 Receiver from 2011 - using my iPhone 15 with an up to date OS. It controls volume, input changes, and most importantly - can alter treble and bass levels (and subwoofer levels) from my listening position. I have found no other remote that can do that. Invaluable. You can also enter into SETTINGS, and control all parameters, also from the listening position - which also allows control of local and Internet RADIO stations. I know there are negative reviews here, but please believe me that that those problems have been corrected. At least in my case. NOTE: This app works via Wi-Fi … and so it is imperative to use an Ethernet cable to interface your amp with the same router - the same NETWORK - as you use for your phone or tablet.

My review for the receiver itself is an unflappable 4 stars. This app works and so I won’t give it a *bad* review. I can’t fault developers for sticking with a system that works. That said, I would appreciate even just a bit of work to bring this app to modernity. There was a period of time where the app didn’t work at all, and I came to this page to see if maybe there was an update. I guess it was a transient network issue on my end, as it works exactly as it did before. Some lowball QOL improvement would be speeding up some aesthetic transitions and refreshing the graphics. This alone would push the app from being something that “works” to being something perhaps a bit industrial yet minimal and lean.

Someone posted this earlier but no one else has mentioned it. I tried this workaround and was finally able to use the app. Before opening the Remote 3 app, turn off Wi-Fi on your iPhone. Open the app and it will give you the “No Wi-Fi Connection” message. At that point, turn Wi-Fi back on and the app will connect to your device as it normally would. However, if you switch to another app or once your iPhone auto-locks, you will have to disable Wi-Fi before returning to the app or it will crash again. It’s not a solution, but it will allow you to use the app if you really need it. Prior to doing this I had also tried the Integra Remote app and it had the same issue. Hopefully Onkyo fixes this.
