I have been a subscriber for many years and love the content but found I kept falling way behind in reading the magazine with the old app as you needed to download whole issues (which was slow) and had to flip through to find the interesting articles. This app solves that problem and makes reading NS a pleasure again. Subscribe through their website and then login to the app rather than subscribing through the app if you want full access to the website, too.

For me the cost of the subscription is definitely worth it. Not having a scientific background, but having a love and admiration for all things science; New Scientist keeps me up to date and speaks at a level I can understand, ok maybe not all the time, but that’s down to me not the writers of this brilliant magazine. Also, the app now remembers the last position of the last article I was in the middle of reading. Before, after a few hours of inactivity, it would reset whilst checking for new content and you would lose your position. This update has been something I had been requesting for some time, so I am truly thankful that it is included in the app. Anyway, we all have a little more time on our hands to read and learn. New Scientist is a great way to pass our time, you won’t regret subscribing to this brilliant magazine.

I used to buy NewScientist but struggled to justify keeping up with the cost as it’s a weekly amount that quickly adds up. Good content usually but sometimes not so good, and with a subscription you’re locked in for months. Recently I missed it and came back after seeing the new apps are a bit better than they were. However I just bought subscription through the App Store only to realise after that despite paying the same price (plus a couple of dollars) as buying direct, you don’t actually get any access to the NewScientist site. Their app, their content, their price, but a completely inferior purchase. Don’t touch this.
