I bought the Nelco 230 printer. I wanted to get my recipes and gardening tips organized. I’m an artist with many mediums to create with. When I was trying to figure out how to best organize my garden and kitchen recipes I decided I wanted something that would make it fun and fairly easy to get down. I didn’t want it to be all handwritten, for that would take much longer than I wanted it to take. I had come across this a couple years ago just an older version. I was impressed by the ability it had to print without ink because I have used ink printers before and had things smudge. I started using this today for the first time. I’m so happy with it I needed to write a review which I have never done before on any product. This is really going to help me create beautiful organized journals on gardening and for my kitchen recipes. I was skeptical at first because it was only In black and white whether I would like it or whether I would desire something in color. But I will use other means to add color. This cuts down on the time and energy I needed for this project and I can already think of others I will use this for.
I’m not sure what I expected…I have had this machine for a year and continue to spend tons of money through a print company for labels for my products that I produce,as a small business owner. Tonight I needed a warning label ASAP so I skeptically pulled out the laser label maker….still in the original packaging, glanced through the directions, then downloaded the app on my phone. I grabbed the box containing small labels that I had purchased with it and opened it up. To my surprise, they were perfect for what I needed…2x2 circles. I again glanced at the label maker thinking, “these labels will never work with that” but loaded them in anyway…what the heck. The instructions said to use a PDF file so I googled the warning label that I needed, with one click I converted it to PDF format on Adobe Acrobat, made changes to personalize it, then saved it to my files. I opened the app and selected a pre-formatted label the size I needed (have to admit I had to google the conversion from millimeters to inches as the app uses mm and the ones available are all rectangular). I opened my file and selected PRINT, 1 copy, to test it….whoa! It printed immediately but was a bit off center. I’m now amazed that it actually worked. I made a few adjustments and spacing to the words I was printing, then tested it again….PERFECT! I was giddy at this point so I selected 50 copies and selected PRINT again. I was expecting it to act like my regular printer with a lot of noise ER UH ER UH ER UH….but it made a little whoosh and literally spit out 50 perfectly printed and aligned labels. I know I made a little “huh” noise then started laughing….I immediately called out to my daughter, “you are never going to guess what I just did….” and proceeded to tell her to which she replied, “yeah mom, I told you a long time ago that you should start using that thing. They are great. We had one at the office and we used it all of the time.” 😳
I use this little printer for everything: putting dates on filters when I replace them, marking food that I put in the refrigerator/freezer, labeling charge cords, putting my name/phone number on items in case they are lost, labeling essential oil blends I create, and labeling all my craft boxes. I even used them to label pots in which I put seeds and the date planted. I love that I can buy different types of labels, some with borders and colors, and the printer automatically recognizes the label type. Many years ago I dreamed about having a Bluetooth label maker that was so simple and quick to use via my phone that didn’t require me to individually type into a tiny keyboard and only displayed the output on a tiny little screen. This device answers that need in a very great way. The interface is relatively easy to use and I have plenty of options for fonts and styles as well as alignment. I can even add tiny graphics to the labels. I highly recommend this product. The only criticism I have is that the labels don’t seem durable. When exposed to heat, the writing fades. When that happens I just print another one since they are all saved in my library.
