This is a great app and HEB continually improves it for the benefit and convenience of their customers. The various ways to order the list, and the accuracy of where items are in each store is truly a valuable tool for customers. My family is able to each log in to the same account to see/update the shopping list, which is so handy (though I think it’s a bit of luck and a backend way to share a list; true sharing across a family account would be great). My one real request is for improvement to the list check/uncheck feature. We keep a continual list and check/uncheck items each week, and add any new items we need. Sometimes I add an item, forgetting it’s already in the list, way at the bottom and checked off. The app then adds a quantity of 1 to that item but keeps it checked. If I’m adding an item already on the list, the app should uncheck the item and prompt me to ensure the quantity is correct. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve audited the list to find we have 4 loaves of bread checked off but none in the house— because we all added bread but never saw it active in the list when at the store, because “adding” isn’t the same as “unchecking.”
If you're blind, there is something you need to be aware of. The most important thing is, the ad to cart button is before the item name, not after like in pretty much every other app. This means, if you do what you would typically do with other apps, you'll likely do what I did and buy something you're allergic too and really have no recourse because You legitimately placed the order. Instead of putting steelhead trout in my cart, I put 3 1/2 pounds of salmon. While other people in my household can eat salmon, I cannot. I'm allergic to it. We can't even cook what I can eat in the same pan as salmon unless my food is cooked first. When checking out, I figured, I already had everything in there that I wanted, and checked out. When it got to my house, my daughter told me that I had ordered salmon, which everybody else can enjoy but I will not be eating. This is definitely something that should probably be addressed, and Weil it isn't a problem with the app not working properly, it would be nice to have some continuity between this app and other grocery apps, like Instacart or even Walmart's apps so things like this don't happen. As it stands, I can't get what I am not allergic too to my house from H-E-B in time Without paying another delivery fee that's six dollars higher than what I already paid. The only way to know exactly what you're adding to your cart before adding it is to click into the item, which is a lot more trouble than it's worth. It's frustrating, and it would be nice if everything was as easy for blind people as it is for everybody else, but it isn't in this case.
I used to a proud H‑E‑B customer, but now I feel duped. I have always been a deal seeker and coupon cutter. I would normally not go out of my way for a better price, but due to the current economy it has become necessity. Recently, I had plans for a trip to H‑E‑B and another store. I was using both store’s app to compare prices and create my shopping list. I was surprised to see most of my items were higher at H‑E‑B. The variation was 10 cents to $2, with all the items on my list it would have added up to about $20. I went to H‑E‑B and purchased the items on my list, but started to notice some of the price differences. I looked at some of the items I had planned to buy at the other store and noticed the labeled price was about the same as the other store. Why??! It turns out that the “Free Curbside” is not free, many of the items include an up-charge. I have not been able to find a way to tell which items have an up-charge and which don’t and how much each upcharge is. All that I know is, is that I will never do curbside again with H‑E‑B; because if you are buying a cart full of groceries, it will probably be around a $20 “free curbside” upcharge , that is not disclosed whatsoever. I am also very disappointed on how the coupons are applied. There is no transaction history of your used coupons in the app. Several times I have purchased items because of a coupon to find out later it did not get applied.
