I’ve been playing HK style Mahjong, table style, over 60 years. This is the best online Mahjong game there is, bar none. It is very realistic. I really enjoy it. A couple of comments: 1) walking speed is ideal. The other speeds are very fast and unrealistic. 2) I understand the chow, pong and wu prompts are needed and that’s good. 3) There’s not a way to rearrange the hidden tiles of your hand. It’s sometimes difficult to determine the tiles to discard. 4) I’m not sure why we earn hearts and their purpose. 5) There’s same for the stars. 6) I see other players have their pictures. I don’t see how or where I can add my picture. Otherwise, I enjoy the game immensely and have introduced it to friends and family to play an online game from their home. Thanks.
I’m new to mahjong though I was born in HK and had wanted to learn it after many years of not knowing who to ask. This app is super fun and thorough. Don’t let the cuteness fool you, it’s very complete and has great info in the scoring and info section. I’ve learned to play completely just by using this app. I love the characters and the interactive elements that make it so easy to pick up. I’m still new to the scoring combos and the new rules in the New 6 and New 18 but they make it easy to learn. My husband and I use it to play in a private room with AI and it’s so much fun. The only thing I’m not clear about is that small squiggly icon in the upper left corner. What’s that for? Aside from that, the settings are awesome and hearing the name of each tile in Cantonese helps me pick it up faster. This is the real deal and the best app for this game!
4 stars bc It’s hard to find a real mahjong app but during the covid restriction in HK, this app makes a big difference to be able to play virtually I would say this app in general is not that user friendly but it is functional. It takes a few days playing around to get it. I still cannot tell the difference between the game rooms bc there are no details about what all the symbols mean. This is important bc I choose a room with minimum points and ppl are still able to get 0 or 1 points and eat chicken with. I also entered a room with max 13 points and was able to eat 21 pt Wu. So I don’t really get how the rooms are set. There’s generally no legend anywhere and the wiki is super limited. Wiki needs to mention more about items bc the icons are still on Chinese when I’m on English mode . Like what is the “who’s waiting for” item? And fluoroscope seems almost the same as shake n fall. Game speed and all those toggles are not clear either. What is new 6 and new 18? The rules / hands are all in one place so I don’t know which points are for classic vs new7 vs new18 . Most importantly , I see someone else mentioned in reviews - there should be massive improvement to be able to customize your private room game !! Very important to be able to choose your own min / max, select style of play, tariff , etc. All in all I like that I can play MJ on it but it’s got a long way to go to be a five star app . I work on product mgmt and Can find more than 20 UX issues on each screen. Customization is good to take this app far and def need consistency in languages.
