K MANGA

I’m very thankful that Kodansha is giving Shonen Jump a run for their money; that being said, I’m not as enthused about the GACHA mechanics employed within. I much prefer Shonen Jump’s monthly subscription and 100-chapter per day limit. Despite the GACHA mechanic, I do appreciate that purchased chapters are available in perpetuity (at least as far as this writing—these days, who knows how long that will last). If you’re a fan of anime and manga, and you wanna read Fire Force, Windbreaker, and Tokyo Revengers, among other Kodansha hits, download this app.

I like this app for many reasons. First I like the points system, but goodness I wish it was simpler to get those points. It takes days just to get enough to read a chapter (and the lottery bonus points are super unlucky, I’ve had this app two weeks and I haven’t gotten a single 50 point treasure chest). I do love, however, that to get more points they have you read a chapter of a random manga. This is motivating when finding a new manga to read and I’ve picked up a few just from doing that. It’d be great if they made points easier to get or get a paid subscription instead. I like that it has rankings as well in many different genres. This app is okay, but it has potential to be so much better.

I have been reading daily on this app for a little over two months. I have put money into it just to make sure I have a stock of points, for when I start needing to pay for chapters. I just now spent some of those points! I think this app is a great app for Manga, and it’s really disappointing seeing it pushed way down the App Store list. (The rating bomb for K manga, just goes to show Americans cannot understand Japanese pricing models.) The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because of the ad integration. You don’t see them when reading but there are just some weird ways to get points when there shouldn’t be, because points are so cheap. Once you get used to the pay system, you’ll have no problem, and you will stay for the great titles!
