If you know another person who uses this app, you can compare your daily “celebrities”, and you’ll quickly see you and your friend are getting almost the exact same ones. They may be a few days apart, but if this app can find any way to say you’re related to someone, no matter how improbable, it will make the connection. It doesn’t matter that the given date of birth would make a woman FIVE YEARS OLD when her alleged “offspring” was born. Out of the 40+ celebrities this app has given me, even a cursory attempt to verify the connection has shown all but 4 of them are completely inaccurate. Even if you give the ancestor pathway a thumbs down for being inaccurate, the app still continues to send you more notifications using the exact same wrong information. If you’ve been using it already, see if these names look familiar: Marilyn Monroe, Barack Obama, Lady Gaga, George Washington, Kanye West, Chris Evans, Abraham Lincoln... these are only a few of the ones my friends and I have all gotten. Also, there is supposed to be a way to compare your family tree to that of a friend on Ancestry, it doesn’t work. Regardless of how many times you and your friend send invitations to each other and accept them, no one ever shows up on your list if friends using the app. There is no support for this app, either. Zero.
This app is a great addition to helping me build my family tree. I get a new possible famous ancestor on average approximately once a day. I have over 70 of them now. I use Ancestry for the most part to build my tree, since this is an Ancestry app and they use the information you provide in your tree, I would think you would get the best results with this app if you have an Ancestry account. And even though all results say that that person is a “possible” ancestor, all of the ones that I have researched to confirm that have indeed been my ancestor so I think any results that they give you that you can conclude that they probably are related, especially if you have a well developed tree. A lot of people say that if you go back far enough we are all related. Reminds me of the old game “six degrees of Kevin Bacon”. And it just so happens that Kevin Bacon is one of my ancestors. I also am related to approximately a dozen former United States presidents, 20 or so writers, 25 or so actors etc. I recommend this to anyone interested in their heritage.
I didn't think this app was going to be much of anything and for the 1st 2-3wks I had no connections found and almost deleted the app. I'm so glad I didn't! I've been actively researching for a decade and I've hit several walls. It's been really interesting to see the connection I have to some great names of the past, or present, & how they've been filling in blanks where I was hitting a wall. I'm finding the connecting ancestors and the tree it leads me down helps me put a picture, a name, a place, and some history with my direct ancestor. It's caused me to dig in deeper to our country's history, knowing how far back my father's line goes in the US. The connections to knowledge that our family's mora's date much further back then I could EVER have guessed! Things I'm passionate about, or qualities I've seen in my children show a much bigger picture when I take into account my family history, the where, and the who we came from. I love the bigger picture of the app & the blanks it helped me fill in on my own family tree. Enjoy getting to know yourself and your family better, whether you're a novice or a seasoned professional.
