Skyscraper for Bluesky

I like this app because it remembers my place in the timeline. However, there’s a few things that I’m finding buggy: -It logs me out frequently, for some reason? And when I log back in, it doesn’t do so properly, and I have to force quit the app and do it again. -Sometimes where it puts me in the timeline is way off from where it should be. Like, I’ve had to scroll through a full day’s worth of previously read posts to get back to where I was sometimes. -If I get to the top and reload posts, it will usually repeat several hours’ worth of posts I’ve already read. These are pretty minor nitpicks, though!

I began using Skyscraper for Bluesky shortly after it was released in January, and it has quickly become my favorite Bluesky client. If you primarily use Bluesky on an iPad like I do, then you are going to love how it runs natively on iPad and takes advantage of the full iPad screen and full sized iPad keyboard. The app simply looks stunning on iPad, and it is just so much better than the official Bluesky app that does not take advantage of the full iPad screen. The iPhone version of this app is also great, but it truly shines on iPad. In additional to its fantastic visuals, the app also functions very well. It loads feeds quickly, provides multiple intuitive options for navigating through feeds, provides great customization options and includes all of the functions and features that you would expect in a top notch social media client. Skyscraper has become my go-to Bluesky client, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an alternative Bluesky app that simply blows the official Bluesky app out of the water.

I’ve been looking around for a good Bluesky app for the iPad, since the official app and many other apps have very poor support for it. So far I mostly like the overall layout and UI, and I have an iPad mini, which often isn’t great with even Apple’s optimized iPad apps. Keeping that in mind, I think that the profile section could use some work. It’s very cramped and doesn’t properly display all the entirety of saved or liked posts. It cuts them off on the sides, and I just think that the profile should have its own full screen tab, or at least the liked and saved posts should so viewing them is nicer. I’ve notice less of a post is cut off in landscape than in portrait, but portrait is still cut off. Again, this could be an iPad mini thing… I do love the profile switching and export features, plus so few apps have good settings for Feed, Timeline, or Following. Good on the dev for not locking things like hide replies behind a paywall too. Really solid start for this app, I’d love to see it ironed out for the iPad in the future, because I like where the dev is going with this app’s iPad UI layout.
