Boston Globe is great. This isn’t.

The Globe is a nice news site offering relevant information to New Englanders— especially Massachusetts and Boston. They have a nice infographic showing how many COVID cases there are in Mass, even breaking them down into cities so it’s easy to read and understand. Also they made this infographic a few months ago showing the Boston Police Department and which police officers have had complaints, why, and if they faced disciplinary actions. All this information is made public by the government, of course, but the Globe puts it all in one place so it’s easy to consume. Also, the articles they put out are pretty good, but they seem a little too obsessed with identity politics. Headlines are always like “BIDEN HIRED A BLACK LADY” like okay, that’s good I guess but I care more about what that lady’s qualifications are and what she’ll do once she goes into office. Sometimes, Biden may do things wrong, and I hope the Globe will do a better job of acknowledging that in the future. I do like the articles because of the comments. There are a lot of clever and intelligent people using the Globe so the comments are my favorite part. It’s also why I encourage everyone to pay for the subscription. The banter in the comment section and the discussions that happen are the best part. Anyway, that’s my review of the Boston Globe, but what I need to rate is my experience with the app, which is not good. It’s barely functional. You have to open Safari to see the comments and the display is terrible. It’s like they used website makers to make an app. It’s clunky and not fun to use. That’s why I’m rating this 2 stars. Even though I do recommend subscribing, you should only use the desktop.

Not working properly today

I’m subscribed digitally, and I often read an article from a link received in an email from the Globe. Sometimes the link goes to a browser, sometimes it goes to the app. It’s not always easy to switch to the app, which is what I would prefer, but most of the time I can read what I want to read. Not today with the Covid history in MA article. The link from the home page in the app doesn’t work, and when arrive at it from other ways of searching, it constantly refresh, and I either lose the video embedded - it happened several times - or lose my reading position in the article, and even lose access to the entire article and need to start the search again. I am giving 3 stars because it is usuathis bad

One of the planet’s finest newspapers

I have been reading the Globe for 30 years now, and as such am pleasanty biased. Front to back, this newspaper continues to hire and keep excellent writers The Globe, unlike other rags like the Herald or Post, values truth and data above all else; and has earned its rep as an honest, fair-handed, and progressive daily. With few exceptions, this paper does an outstanding job in reporting, investigation , delivering a product that continues to be best in class. Most writers are super smart but never preachy; backing each piece with context and scope so I can quickly ascertain whether I should pay more or less attention to the issues most important to me and my community. Those who complain about the Globe’s “left wing” bias or progressive nature may want to also consider the culture and history of its readership. “Balanced reporting” shouldn’t ever mean that you need to force an equal quantity of Left vs Right coverage as one poster commented in a review here. Balance in this sense never makes sense. I like that the paper is an example of the best in journalism; reporting vthe facts, support with data and proven scientific approach. Expose the lies and the liars for who they are; no matter the political party. Ffhg Keep up the good work. I’d only ask for a bit more college sports coverage; especially hoops. I understand Boston is a pro-sports city with our rich heritage among all professional asclubs and franchises but I think there might only be more support for the local schools. Globe has the best soundboard to help grow each of the communities that have dm
