Iโve had all the major alarm companies for securing my home. They protected me from burglars, but no one protected me from their contracts. For usually $100 down; they will install a new system in your home. However, unless youโre an attorney and understand contract law and all that fine print, they still own that equipment, and itโs hard to get out of their contracts. Since I went with SimpliSafe, I had to purchase the system outright. The good thing was that I owned the system and you donโt even need to pay anyone if money gets tight. Itโll be a great noise maker to scare away the burglars. Yet, I always pay the monitoring and interactive fees to protect my home and to be able to turn my system on or off with my phone while Iโm away from home. You know, sometimes you forget to turn the system on before you leave. No problem, just turn on my smart phone, hit my app and hit the on button, and itโs on. There are zero contracts as SimpliSafe does not use contracts. Itโs just month to month and you can turn it off anytime you want. If you move, itโs your system and you just pull the detectors and control off the walls of your old home and tape them up at your new home. You can customize every detector to do different things. They really stand by their product. I hate all the other alarm systems, and I love SimpliSafe and wonโt even consider leaving them.
About a week or so ago I made decision to choose Simplisafe alarm system for my home. All of the components arrived in a quick timely manner in new packaging. Upon installation I could not get the base station and keypad to sync/connect to each other and hold a connection farther that 5 feet. Very frustrated I called tech support and after several attempts and corrective measure it was decided I had received faulty equipment. A replacement base station and keypad was shipped to my home approx 4 days later. A return shipping label was also emailed so I could return the faulty equipment. When the replacement components arrived they were not in original packaging and you could tell they were not in new/unused condition. Upon starting the installation process I called tech support for help switching/activating the new equipment. Upon working with the technician ,it was discovered that the equipment had been previously activated and had other (not mine) devices linked to the base station and keypad. This leads me to believe this equipment was indeed not new and had already been in someone elseโs home. The technician agreed and was able to โwipe outโ the other devices from the base station and assign the equipment to my account. After this was completed he was very helpful in getting all of my devices (38 total) linked up and named to my account. So far I have been extremely satisfied with my customer service/tech support experience but less than happy about the fact my equipment was not new and had previously been in someone elseโs home.
Ok, so I got a simplisafe system with motion sensors, entry sensors, smoke detector key fobs, extra siren etc. while on sale and a free camera included. I had to use tech support with a password set up problem that I have since figured out to be probably an issue that I created. So, the young man helping me was very helpful and got me registered for monitoring during that same call. Part of the sale price included 1sr month monitoring free. I opted for the upgraded version and like it so far. Will probably stay with it if I donโt run into issues that others have noted with the APP. Itโs only been a few days since installing and itโs working fine. So hereโs something stupid - while mounting sensors on a sliding glass door and the front door, the magnets stuck in place fine on the door frames but, after pulling the battery activation tabs and sticking the sensor to the doors and holding tightly for 30 seconds, they didnโt stick at all so I had to get out the drill, find a tiny screwdriver and attach with screws. On the third sensor install, I pulled the battery tab, went to stick it on and it dawned on me DUH my brain mistook removing the battery tab for removing the adhesive tab. After removing that, guess what it stuck just fine, as did the rest of them. So donโt be that guy. And donโt laugh, it could happen to you. Okay you can laugh if you want to. Bottom line, so far I really like the system, it was fun to install and if I have problems later I have confidence that tech support will help. If not, Iโll let you know.
