I use this app to listen to WGUC, which it’s what I used the previous version for. The one feature I was hoping to see in the new version is an easy way to see what piece is playing at the moment. I have to either scroll through the day’s playlist to get to the current hour or go to the WGUC website, where it’s displayed right on the home page. I’d love to be able to just glance at my phone or my smartwatch and see what’s playing.
I wrote this review for years ago, and the situation has gotten no better sense. The app continually stops working, must be deleted, must be reloaded. It’s quite frustrating. I also have used the KCRW app and I never have any of these problems with it. It loads quickly. It does not fail and does not cut out. I wish that WVXU Would revamp the app into ways: 1). streamline the app, so that it loads more quickly. There’s so many features in it, that it takes a long time to load. 2). Work on the app so that it does not repeatedly fail, and require deleting and reloading. When you click on the icon, there is needlessly long wait for the app to load. Then when it opens, after you click play, you must quickly move to the opposite side of the screen and click skip so that you don’t have to wait through advertisements. These two negatives are not necessary. For instance the KCRW app loads much more quickly and does not require you to hit skip to avoid being exposed to a series of ads. I fervently hope that the powers that be a WVXU will simplify the WVXU app so that it is much more user friendly. Finally, I don’t know if any other app goes south in must be deleted and reloaded answer often as this app. It rarely lasts longer than a month on my phone before I have to it stops functioning, I have to delete and re-load.
Since discovering WVXU, I am an everyday listener and the app is what I usually use to listen because it goes where I do without requiring an actual radio. I especially enjoy being able to listen with my earbuds so I’m not bothering others in my household if they’re involved in something else. My only disparaging remark is that sometimes my feed is interrupted for unknown reasons. Not sure what that’s about but it’s not enough to keep me from using the app!
