I downloaded this app from a friend who told me about it. The first day I only got 3 eggs but I found myself immediately enthralled by the concept and the “hatching” experience. Though I don’t hold a ton of stock in the questions presented (they say all of the questions were developed by professional therapists), I didn’t seem to really care - there was something super fun and enticing about answering these questions sequentially with another human being, and seeing the results in real time. It was fun, easy to use, different, and a matchmaking experience that was fundamentally predicated on something other than looks and swiping (as an, unfortunate, serial dating app user, these are all things that I could never say for any other new app that I tried). Though I think Hatched has ways to go (they need to update the questions and provide users with more matches for free - although this might be a product of being so new that they simply dont have enough users yet), I think this concept is commercially viable and that it could be on the cusp of something really, really big. Again, the apps not perfect, but it’s fun and different and is extremely refreshing…which is something I haven’t been able to say on any of the other new apps have been released in recent years.

As a woman on this app i was absoutely appalled at the lack of preference settings. In an app where we’re matching without seeing each others pics, I would like my preferences to be solid. For example, I would never date a man with kids. Why can’t i set that as a dealbreaker preference? Also the age preferences are weird. I set to no older than 27 and still saw 29 year old profiles. That’s a dealbreaker to me. This has potential but i could never see myself investing time in finding a partner on this app. seems like it takes too long to connect to anyone, and you’ll spend a lot of time weeding out your “no”s before you even get to that point. This app is for people who treat dating like a sport. I’m willing to guess it would probably take you at least a week to actually connect with anyone on this app. not like hinge where you can just message and go “hey let’s get a coffee” and meet someone quickly. And the questions that reveal themselves over time are not intimate enough to ensure compatibility. so it’s a lot of work to maybeee meet a potential partner. big maybe. If you’re serious about meeting someone i don’t think this app is for you. I also suspect a lot of taken/married men use this due to not having your face circulating. and who else would have time to sit there and go through all of this? married men. and you can’t weed out the ones with kids so. yeah. it’s a big no for me. sadly i wasted my time.

I’m a dating app guru. I’m serious, I’ve been on dating apps for 8 years and have tried every dating app that there is. Here are the reasons why Hatched is different and why I like them over other apps -Questions that are asked dive deeper into core values (things that are important in a relationship and marriage) instead of swiping based on what you “think someone might be”. It’s almost like Hatched is your dating best friend that sends you on a wonderful date, knowing that the person you’re going to meet is actually compatible with you. - The matches that you’re given are carefully selected in a way that allows you to have that “genuine back in the day- getting to know someone” feeling (90s babies will know). -They have safety features so that you’re not getting matches who are solely there to get swipes. They eliminate matches based on your answers which is incredibly important for things like finances/raising children/ questions about long term goals. -After using the app for three weeks it has helped me redeveloped what dating can be and realistically being able to find “the one” without feeling the dopamine of constant swiping - which is the reason why most dating apps don’t work.
