But I wish it had more personality. Some humor, a companion pet or something would add a lot of character and make the game more enjoyable, especially during the HOPs and when retracing your steps again and again trying to figure out what to do next. The characters are bland as well, even with their colorful appearances. Maybe have them say something funny and unexpected? The script is ultra focused on being informative and terse and lends nothing to the development of character. As I love these games to chase away boredom, I still give it 5 stars.
I really enjoyed the first Darkness and Flame game, and this one was just as good. Although there are 30 scenes in the main game instead of 35 like the first one. There are morphing objects and collectibles in every scene. The mini games are fun and slightly challenging but not stupid hard. The hos are interactive and are a joy to play, and they add to the sense of adventure. I usually find that the hos actually detract from the game, but not here! This game picked up after the first one ended, which is great continuity in a series. Play this free to play game, you won’t regret it!
Things I like: the graphics are stunning and the story lines really engaging. The length and complexity are a near perfect balance. Things that could be better: especially in the Darkness and Light series I’m finding the prompts are often poorly worded to the point they can be really misleading. A clue will say “9 lenses are missing when it’s clearly supposed to say eggs. Flutes are referred to as pipes. Wheels and handles are called valves. Often I’m not sure how the thing I’ve found is supposed to be used because its name doesn’t match the prompt. Also, after several games in and across series you quickly notice it’s the same puzzles with different artwork. But for the price that’s a minor complaint.
