Sure, a port lacks a little of the playability of playing it not on a phone; but this version is complete. It doesn’t have the shortcomings I’ve seen in previous Square Enix ports, the remaster and added content are huge improvements to the original game, and it’s overall worth more than the price. Definitely worth buying for nostalgia or first time players.
I’ve been waiting for a rerelease of this game for so long. Every time ffvii came out on a new platform I said where’s Saga Frontier. Works well on mobile no aiming like GTA even ff tactics was hard to rotate the screen on mobile but this one never had any of that. The updated menus/ UI aren’t perfect but they’re fine. One issue is when healing characters and your mage is in the last slot it can be hard to select who you want to heal and if misclicked could start the round. May be more of an issue with a large monster in your group standing in the way and I’ve not found a way to click around them. Can be an issue selecting enemies too but not horrible. The cool thing about this game was the different character types humans, monsters, mechs and mystics. Each have their own ways to upgrade and operate. I had a 50 page printout of monster abilities. They could become almost any monster in the game. You could appreciate mystics and mechs in the same way. Stop by a certain bar on a certain planet to bulk up your roster quick. Go to a certain tomb for some easy to get mid level gear and we’re back in business.
I don’t normally write reviews, but this has been one of my favorite games since I was a kid and owned it on PlayStation 1. The remaster makes the graphics look better, there are bonuses to completing each character story line with new game +, AND they added fuses story (which I’d recommend saving for last). If you liked the original or are a fan of the series and have never played this game - it’s worth every penny… I hope they continue to remake the classics like this. How about vagrant story next? Or radiata stories? :)
