Seems to work fine now most of the time for my usage. I travel to work on the bus every work day and I've noticed a lot fewer issues lately. I have a years pass so payment happens only once a year which seems to be the biggest source of complaints right now.

Don’t waste your time with this app if you don’t have a european phone number ; you can buy tickets onboard any straeto bus without punishment, even on long routes like Reykjavik to Selfoss

It lets you select from a bunch of area codes. But if yours isn’t on the list, good luck, you’re just not allowed to pay to ride a bus.

The Klappið app is an official Public transportation payment app, made for Strætó Iceland (the Administrative body for public transportation in the capital area of Iceland). The purpose of the app is to provide payment possibilities of various sorts in public transportation, including single tickets and period passes (such as monthly or yearly passes) for the citizens and guests of Reykjavík. The user can, in the first phase, sign on, register a payment method, purchase a travel media and confirm the purchase by validation in the buses of Strætó.
