Reviews: What People Think About Owlet
Mr. Velocity
Rating: 4/5
Let me start with saying the only reason we get sleep is because of the owlet smart sock. We started using owlet during their second version of the sock when my twins were born. The twins came out very early and thus spent 7 weeks in the NICU. The monitors in the hospital were the one thing that helped keep our mind at ease. Once home with the babies the owlet filled that roll. Had we not had owlet it would have been so much harder physically and emotionally. Over time the Owlet smart sock has continued to improve and our youngest uses version 3 which is an amazing improvement over the last. The ONLY reason owlet is not 5 stars for me is the camera, OH how I hate it. From the outset it looks good, it sees in infrared while also being equipped with a infrared light, detects motion/sound, and is easy to set-up. But… it only connects when it feels like it… which is sooooo frustrating. I also have a Ring camera in the room that is suppose to be used for an overall look of the room and windows but I spend most of my time trying to see the kids through it instead of the owlet cam. I have had the cam for about 2 years and have an extensive mesh wireless network in the house, yet STILL I can’t get this thing to connect regularly or quickly. If the cam was more reliable it would be 5/5. Its like having Ferrari, its suuuper nice to drive… if it turns on.

So my story is I was hesitant to buy the sock because it's pricey and not all the reviews are great. My husband and I decided to purchase the sock anyways because even if it didn't always work like people say well when it works it works and better than nothing. Fast forward 5 months of using the sock and things have been great only issues is sometimes app is glitchy or not connecting to base but I just dis connect and reconnect and it fixes. So my son has had a runny nose for a few days and then one night I was looking at his heart rate and he was sleeping and it was 50 beats higher than his average sleep heart rate and I'm like omg what is going on so I keep watching thinking maybe bad dream or idk. Well it didn't go down so I start touching him moving him and I'm like one he is so hot!! So I picked him up and took his temperature and he had a 101.1 fever!! I was so grateful to this sock that I was able to catch the fever before it got worse ( my son was sound asleep). So he has been sick for a few days and I watch the app like crazy. Well tonight the app would not work for me, tried everything. So I saw they had a chat option in the app and this guy names Chris jumped right on started helping me, we were trying things for over 40 min and he wasn't giving up and he got it to work!! I am so grateful to Chris and this device. Spend the money, worth every penny to keep a child safe and have peace of mind.

Let me start by saying I absolutely love my owlet smart sock and camera. I love being able to monitor my child, look at sleep statistics, and check in on him using the camera. The majority of the time it works flawlessly. It does occasionally give unnecessary blue notifications (sock disconnected from base station/out of range) that wake me durning the night, and it would be ideal if the smart sock 3 had options like the previous sock to delay these type of notifications. However, the most annoying feature is the low battery notifications on the app. They start popping up when there is 4 hours of battery life remaining. Once would be fine, you clear it and it’s gone, but every couple of minutes? Why? Clearly this is designed for monitoring a baby while sleeping until 18 months, and older babies sleep for 12+ hour stretches. In the morning I like to keep the app open to watch my son as I am doing other things. There is no benefit to telling me every few minutes that there is 4 hours of battery life remaining. Not to mention, what would I do about a dying battery anyways - go wake my son? I don’t think so! Plus, FOUR HOURS? That’s a really long time. If I’m curious about remaking battery life, it is displayed right along with all the other information. Please, please, stop these crazy and unnecessary notifications.
