Boxes: Storage made simple

I needed some long term storage while moving and temporarily downsizing, and quickly realized I was going to need a better system than just handwritten labels. There were several related apps, and I already had a couple inventory apps as well, but this one looked the best for both moving and general storage and also supports NFC tags. So I got myself a shipping container, plastic totes, a roll of NFC tags (these are only pennies now), and a roll of consecutively numbered inventory labels that I include in the tote name. All I need to do to quickly find an item is search for it in the app and then look for that numbered tote. Or, if I want to see everything in a tote without opening or digging through it, I can just scan the NFC tag and the app will open the tote for me with photos and descriptions of every item in it. You can have as much or as little detail on items as you want, make it as simple or advanced as you want (the numbered labels and NFC tags are entirely optional) and it’s extremely flexible for customization. I added some custom attributes (perishable, expiration date, color, liquid, etc.) and hid the ones I didn’t need (cost, warranty, etc.). What was originally an overwhelming task is now a very simple system that makes it very easy to find and organize an entire houseful of packed items. I also ended up buying the lifetime license because I knew I’d be using it well beyond 3 months for permanent garage and basement storage if nothing else. If you need the additional capacity beyond the free tier, it’s well worth the cost because it pays for itself in the time it saves you looking for items, and in not having to buy new items to replace the ones you know you have somewhere but can’t actually find when you need them right away! The developer was also very responsive to feature requests.

OMG, I LOVE THIS APP! “Boxes” has made my life easier and packing boxes for storage or moving is so much easier. I can list my box items, add tags, labels, or important information to each box in the app. Items of boxes are searchable too! No more writing an item list on each box and then later wondering if items are in this or that box. Plus you can take a photo of items going into each box if you’re not into listing it all. Best of all, the keyboard microphone works to do the typing for me if I get tired of manually listing items! FYI: the first few boxes (10-15…can’t remember how many since I immediately purchased more “boxes” after giving it a try) are free, then I added more boxes and they are cheap and so worth it! Can’t say enough how much I love this app and to top it off, my husband loves it too. I was able to share my log in information with my husband so we could both be packing up our boxes in different rooms with immediate access and updates of each added box. That made my heart sing with joy because we don’t have to worry about accidentally labeling 2 different boxes with the same number.

This app is making my latest move So Much more organized! Thank you!! Some things that would really help though: 1. Having the app track which labels have been printed would be super helpful. That or making it so that individual boxes can be selected from different spaces to be printed. Currently, I’m printing on paper instead of labels. So if I don’t fill a sheet, then the paper goes to waste once I cut out the printed labels - which isn’t ideal. I understand this isn’t an issue with sticker sheet labels because you can reuse the sheet but printing on paper is a more cost effective option and an ideal one because I didn’t have to order labels or go to the store for them, the top reason I was inclined to download this app over other options. Currently I’m having to put a unique attribute on all of the tags I want to print (like hazardous... how often is that going to be used in non-commercial moving and storage?) and then once they’re printed I black out the attribute with sharpie - not the most streamlined option. 2. Add an “in process” option along with “packed/unpacked” 3. A “sentimental” filter would be helpful (personally) 4. Currently the labels print with the room name on the top And bottom colored bar of the label. If instead each box was able to have a name/title and then have the label print with the room name on the top and the box name/title on the bottom that would be super helpful. Overall though, this app is an organization dream! Thank you!
