Camera+: Pro Camera & Editor

This has been my go to camera app and photo editor since 2011 starting with the camera+ legacy app. I purchased the current version in 2018, and have used regularly. Recently, the developers have completely rebuilt the app based on the notes that accompany each update. Although disappointed they didn’t release the rebuilt version as a new app with in app subscriptions/purchases to enable functionality, as occurred with the change from original legacy app, I understand the need for a subscription to contribute development. Prices on average compared to some other photo editing apps out there, I think they are worth it for the ease of use I find with this app. Some communication from developers when they were going to start charging for functionality would have been nice, but it missteps happen and developers forget about the long time customers sometimes. These reasons are why I only rated 4 stars out of 5. I find the app easy to use, especially for editing photos and saving photos. There are many filters and frames included. The camera is straightforward and has presets for action, lowlight etc. you have the ability to set shutter speed or use preset shutter priority, enabling more of a DSLR feel. A link to a how to guide about how to use the features for new and existing users would be helpful, overall, it is a good app.

I am a diehard amateur photographer. (I have 44,000 pics on my cellphone alone). And while I use my iPhone to take the majority of my photos, I have found that slowly, but surely, my phone has become my camera by default, simply because I have it with me at all times. If I were to wear my SLR Camera (fully charged) around my neck, I might take more photos with superior quality, rather than relying solely on my cell to capture that fleeting shot of the sunset or a rainbow. While I have taken some amazing photos with my cellphone, the photos don’t hold up once I start to enlarge them. Because the pixelates are less dense on my phone compared to high quality digital image generated by a high end SLR digital camera. So, while I have the ability to capture those “wow” photos, they were still not the quality shots I want to present. When I stumbled upon the Camera+ app, I found myself choosing this app’s s camera and editing platform regularly. I have actively been using Camera+ as my go to cellphone camera. The tools offered and the light box editing feature has been a game changer for editing photos afterwards. And now, with Camera+ 2, the editing and shooting treats are truly revolutionary in our brave new world where digital smartphone photos will no longer be on the receiving end of snark from purists, akin to the negative reactions an unsuspecting woman who chooses to wear white shoes after Labor Day might have to endure should she be found out by the ladies who lunch. So as it goes with Cameras vs. Smartphones. With Camera+ 2 app, you will be able to silence the critics for good. 5 STARS!

This app is affordable, easy to use, and you can get quick and beautiful results. However, I have some irritations with it - the biggest being that the preview screen is different than the final result. I see this misty with the temperature adjustments. Whenever I change the temperature, I am able to get the exact result I want (at least what I see in the preview screen), but then when I tap the check mark to approve the change, it will change the temperature back slightly. It doesn’t revert it back to the original, but it changes it enough to be pretty noticeable. This makes it difficult during the editing process because I have to keep guessing on temperature, knowing that what I’m seeing on the preview screen is not the actual result I will get. The other issue I have is that the sliding adjustments are nice, but if you want to make a single step adjustment (or even just 2-4 steps) the sliding button will not let you do it. I end up jumping up or down more than I want or spending way too long trying to get it just right. I use this app to edit my jewelry photographs for my known business, and color accuracy is extremely important. I work hard to get my lighting right, but I still need to make subtle shifts in temperature, contrast, etc. If these two things could be fixed it would be amazing. However, despite these things it’s still the best app I’ve used for editing, especially with macro photography. (When I say best I’m taking into consideration: cost, ease of use, options.)
