I’m new to brain teasers and puzzle games but after feeling my mental capacity lacking I thought I’d go hunting. This was recommended to me by the App Store and I can see why! It subtly and expertly builds an atmosphere that I get sucked into while trying to solve the puzzles. I get great satisfaction whenever I solve one and I can usually do it without help. This game will definitely be more enjoyable if I played with someone else who can help but won’t spoil it for me, but often times the answers are right in front of you - you just have to find it. I also like the variety of paths the game can take. There are sometimes multiple solves that can skip over sections. You can always go back and figure out the other solves but the variety is very cool.
TL;DR: It’s great, with fantastic, though obtuse puzzles. It’s also fantastically difficult, so be prepared to have to step away at times. Play it blind. The Guides Axiom is… interesting. That really sounds negative, but I mean in the best possible way. I suppose another way I can put it is thusly: this is one out of two puzzle games that has managed to keep me invested after an hour or so. The only other game to manage this has been Infinifactory. Axiom is not easy. It requires much more brainpower than first meets the eye. The initial puzzles, as one would expect, are simple, but after only a few of them, the game begins to branch in the most fantastic way. The description does not lie: progress WILL be slow. Painfully slow, at times. Stepping back and doing something else is almost a requirement to get through to the lateral thinking the game can request at times. (It’s a shame iPhones aren’t waterproof: I’ve found solutions just standing in the shower while not even thinking about it.) Axiom, as with any game, isn’t perfect. The game can be obtuse to a fault at times, though I believe that this was (quite obviously) intended, so as to keep the mystic of the whole thing. Controls can be slightly wonky at times, either not registering or registering where there was anything register (though, in full admission: this may be my phone, as it has done that to me before while I’m hovering my thumbs above the keyboard) though this doesn’t hamper the experience. Finally, play this game without looking up answers. It’s better that way.
Another satisfied reviewer wrote that they downloaded this game to satisfy their "The Room" fix, and, as a huge fan of The Room games too, I didn't need to know anything more. I went straight to downloading this game & I am so glad I did. I LOVE THIS GAME! The fact that it is super challenging makes me very happy. If challenges are easy to solve, I'm unhappy. In fact, I prefer they are so difficult that I sometimes nearly give up & have to search for cheats. I'm on level 20 now, and I had to search for a cheat at least once -even after exhausting all available hacks for the level. (But, boy did I feel stupid when I discovered the answer! LOL!) The Room series are the only other iPad games I am crazy about. And now, this game has earned its place on the same level. :) Please, developers, make more exactly like this one!
