Great concept but I am unsure about the end result because I could never get the selfie to upload. The app appeared to freeze up and displayed the message "Uploading Face Scan". It may have been a bandwidth issue on my end or it could just take awhile to transmit the amount of granular 3D data that a face scan captures. Either way it tested my patience and was frustrating. One more thing that also bothered me is the lack of a very prominent disclosure of what is done to protect the face scans, who technically owns the data once it resides on either the company's servers or cloud provider, and how that data can be removed. Given the recent misuse and abuse of sensitive data that has come to light by tech firms and the less-than-scrupulous use of that data, I would like to have a very clear explanation of the policies as they relate to the most sensitive and identifying piece of information that any person can give up. Frankly, I am quite reticent to entrust such data to a company that could decide to sell such data if they run into a cash crunch or as an ancillary source of revenue, and I would like a clear airing of what the policies are, the recent California data privacy law notwithstanding. If it were not for the complete lack of variety from the prescription eyewear industry as regards the size of frames, the potential privacy issues would have completely dissuaded me from trying this
My experience with Topology Eyewear was amazing! I just went through a terrible experience trying to get prescription eyewear through a local optician and through Oliver People’s, but every time my glasses would come in the frames would be used/bent, and the lenses were scratched and of terrible quality. To make it worse, the opticians were never able to fit the glasses to my face correctly, and I had to try to adjust the frames myself at home. I was quite nervous to try Topology at first, but I decided to give the app a try and went through the process without any expectations. I used an all white wall for my background for the video and I made sure my hair was not over my ears. I liked having the ability to adjust the size of my frames and choose whatever colors I wanted. I was provided updates through the process and the Topology team even took the time to expedite my order for me since I needed a new pair of glasses due to the problems I experienced elsewhere. I received my new glasses in about three weeks, and I have to admit I was extremely impressed off the bat. The presentation was awesome (they come in a neat little box with a microfiber cloth, unique leather eyewear case, and little bottle for eye lens cleaner). My glasses fit perfect, and I mean perfect right out of the box. I did not have to make any adjustments at all! I cannot believe how they were able to get my measurements so accurate by using AR from the video in the app, it’s honestly hard to believe! The lenses are also crystal clear and I feel as though I can see better than I could in my previous glasses, which had Hoya lenses. In short, I cannot say enough about how much I enjoy my new glasses and how amazing my experience was! Their customer service crew (Farrah, Natalie, and Liz) all provided exceptional service. I am so grateful!
I decided to order glasses from Topology eyewear mainly because I was unhappy with the selection I was finding in retail stores. I needed a larger size glasses and found from local shops that a lot of the women’s frames were too small, the mens were too masculine and I can be quite picky. I took a leap of faith and downloaded the Topology app. I will be honest to say I was skeptical but I moved forward with following the directions and eventually placed my order – Union frame in tortoise color. They sent me a prototype to try on and they seemed to fit fine. After a chunk of time my glasses arrived. The color was not what I anticipated and after wearing them for a week I found the fit wasn’t perfect. Now they weren’t too off, but since I paid a good deal on the glasses I wanted them to be perfect. I contacted Topology and they were very fast to respond and very willing to reproduce a pair of glasses for me. It seemed they wanted them to be perfect as much as I wanted them to be perfect. I took a bunch more photos and they sent another prototype, still not perfect. I explained to them how I wanted the nosepiece and they did exactly what I wanted. Now the prototype was perfect! They also sent a few color samples to me. That was super helpful. I ended up going with Amber color. Don’t judge color off of the fit app. Look more at the samples or actual photographs of the glasses, which they were happy to send. My final pair arrived and guess what – they were perfect and well worth the wait. The whole process was lengthy, but they were up front about that. The price was on the higher end, but not too far off of local chain shop. If you’re looking for a pair of glasses give them a try and you won’t be disappointed with the product or with the customer service. I’m hoping they save my fit information in case I ever need a new pair.
