GPSmyCity: Walks in 1K+ Cities

This is a brilliant app, I have used it at least in 10 different cities while traveling around the United States. When you have the time and the weather permits, what better than to do your own walking tour of the town at your own pace, around the city and listening to the details of what makes the town especial. Great idea how they categorized the tours by monuments, churches, architecture, including some of the famous places related to food or bars. I had the opportunity to also look at the article of the city I was born, Vigo. Spain. Their suggestions on the important and beautiful places were exactly where I will take my friends when visiting. So now when friends go there to vacation I will be able to recommend GPS my city and feel confident they will hit all the spots! I really enjoy the features of the app about the listening option, the different tours depending on your preference and the directions to take you from point A to B. Highly recommended.

I love this app! My family and I have been using it for years and it is our go-to travel app anytime we travel to a new city. We love walking around and this app is a great way to get oriented with a city or just see the highlights if you’re only in town a day or two. The number of cities with walking tours in this app is huge! Plus there are smaller towns with tours too. The maps are incredibly helpful and the upgraded version is more than worth it for the ability to create custom walks etc. I love being able to change the starting location and having the app order sights to make the best route from that location. To upgrade each city costs less than a paper map and this app provides way more information. All the sights they suggest stopping at have a little blurb about the sight, which we have always found interesting. We like the flexibility of walking at our own pace and skipping sights that aren’t as interesting to us without having to fast forward the app or any other hassle that some self-guided tours have. Plus you can track your progress in the city so if you deviate from the suggested walking path, it is easy to navigate back to the next sight. Over the years of using this app, I’ve experienced a couple small glitches, emailed their help desk, and received a helpful and friendly response within a day from a real person, not a robot!, and they’ve fixed the issues immediately. I can’t recommend this app highly enough. If you like to walk around cities on your own, this app is a great mix of planning ahead and playing it by ear.

Okay, I see some negative reviews about the map and the clunky app, but I have to say for the price, and yes, including the new yearly subscription, it’s still very worth it. I have used 6 of the paid tours and a few free ones with GPSmyCity. I started with the free, but when I paid for the upgrades (less than $5 at the time), I was pleased. Because I travel at least once or twice a year, I’m willing to pay the subscription mainly to support the team. I just recently came back from Florence where my wife and I spent over $200 for a private guided walking tour that included a fantastic lunch. No complaints, the guide was great and we learned a lot, but it was only 4 hours long and we were at his mercy. For less than $20 using this app, we would’ve been able to map out the tour we wanted, read in advance, and take our time. Yes, you can use Google and Pocket Earth and other free tools, but come on - for $20 you can get a well organized and fun tour with a pretty decent offline map. Spending hundreds in flight and hotels, I don’t $20 for something that would cost 3 times or more for a true guided tour. Oh, and the support team has been awesome for times when I did have problems with the app. I’ve been using them for years and will continue to do so. Don’t let the few negative ads steer you away - give it a shot...
