Decibel Meter Sound Detector

I have an exhaust fan over the gas cook top that was loud, but I had put some foam and a pillow around the flex hose in the cabinet above the cook top burners to try and dampen the sound. But we needed to use that space for putting oil and other cooking stuff. So I downloaded the meter to check the sound when running with the supposed sound-proofing in place and without the sound-proofing, and the reading was exactly the same. So while I thought putting that foam there made a difference, it actually made no difference at all, and we were able to reclaim the space for storage instead. Very useful! Prior to that, I was just asking my wife if she thought it sounded louder or not with the foam, and she couldn’t really tell. Which actually is what the meter ended up showing. But now we know…

I really enjoyed this app until the latest update. In fact, had I reviewed it then, I would have given it 5 stars. After updating the app, I don't understand how it works anymore. Before, you could see a graph of the time period that you were recording decibel level. You could scroll through from the beginning you the end of the recording session. Now, the graph seems to only show a short time period and as more time goes by, the beginning of the "recording" disappears. Also the first day I used it after the update is the only date that appears whenever I turn it on, regardless of how much time has gone by since the previous use. The app used to show what the max decibel number was for the amount of time you had it on. Now, the max number changes as you're using it. For example during a 20 minute time period, it might show 100 as the max but then five minutes later the max reached goes down to say, 95. There really aren't instructions to explain all of this. I really liked the previous version better.

I live in an apt that has other tenants below as well as on two sides of my apt. I use this app to set the the volume on my TV so I can use the loudest volume without being so loud it that any other tenant can hear my TV. Beats wearing a hearing aid for mild hearing loss and allows me to really enjoy my TV’s sound quality. Please share this with as many multi-family renters and/or hard of hearing persons. Biggest reason to do this is different TV shows require a volume adjustment that is different to get in the ‘sweet spot’ for listening—mid 60s decibels works well for me with my 55” LG TV placed 9 feet from me for a great view and sound.
