Chessable: Study Chess Smarter

The Chessable app development team is uniquely gifted at taking an app that works fine and simply wrecking it. This has happened before and took many updates before it was finally corrected. Unfortunately I recently made the error to update the app (a version that was working just fine) and now the mode trainer is just awful. There are split second duplicates of pieces appearing on the screen, the pieces don’t move as smoothly as before. What’s worse is that the app keeps crashing. Over and over and over again. For a couple of different courses I’ve been stuck trying to learn the same variation endlessly because the app keeps crashing during my 2nd or 3rd repetition. I guess I’ll be very good at that one line which I’ve been trying to complete dozens of times. But seriously, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I would advise everyone to not update this app if you are satisfied with the current version. Or just use the web browser for Chessable and avoid the app entirely. Support team is never helpful and offer nonsensical solutions (also something that has happened before). I just hope the Chessable app is restored to what it used to be months ago.

Firstly, there’s an abundance of different course on this app that will help improve anyones chess game. I love the style in which they are presented as well making it easy to pick up and implements over the board/online. My only complaint is that app can be buggy at times. For example, I’ll try to review certain variations and once I’ve completed reviewing certain lines; it won’t allow to move on to the next variation and my progress isn’t taken into account thus Making me repeat the tedious process of replaying such lines again from the start. Other times I get “booted” out of the app multiple times, requiring me to sign in again before being able to review lines/ learn new variations. Other than that, when the apps is working smoothly it’s wonderful!

Chessable has a ton of free training sessions that will introduce you to any number of ways to improve your game, with scheduled repetitions to train your memory muscle. The trainers are high grade masters, the sessions are thorough—some if not most include videos—paid courses are worth the money, too. I’m currently working through 100 endgames you must know, an anti-Sicilian repertoire for black, middle game strategies from 2020 Legends of Chess contenders ... there is a PRO membership, but the only advantage I see with that is it identifies the moves that prove difficult concepts for you to grasp and allows you to work on. There is also an option, if you have the points in the bank, to work through all the a particular training session to prepare for a tournament. I could on. Lots of perks in this app. If you are serious about your chess this app should be on your phone. You won’t be disappointed
