Candle: Couples & Relationship

I downloaded this app with my long distance girlfriend after hearing about it from a friend and have been really enjoying using the premium version of the app. Yes, the premium features are paid (and the app still has great free features), but it’s a small investment in the relationship I care about the most. We really enjoy the mini games (especially seeing how our scores stack up to other couples on the app), and get some good laughs at the questions. It’s a been a nice addition to look forward to in our nightly routine and the calendar in the app is a really sweet way to look back on memories we’ve made. There’s so much this app has to offer, and the developing team seems to really care about continuing to update it with fun new features. I could see this being a great addition to any relationship (it’d probably even be fun to do with your homies).

I enjoy using Candle, especially the home screen widgets and most of the conversation prompts. The app does a great job of helping my partner and me stay connected, and I appreciate the intention behind it. One feature I would love to see is the ability to create custom question categories. Currently, the monthly check-in allows users to create one question, but it would be great to either create an entire category of personalized questions or have a way to submit questions for consideration in future categories. I would also like more control over the types of prompts that appear. Some of the more off-the-wall questions aren’t always relevant to us, so having the option to filter or customize prompt styles would improve the experience. Overall, the number of categories feels somewhat limited. If a couple spends more than 15 minutes at a time in the app, it’s easy to run out of new content. While I enjoy the app and it helps us maintain connection, I sometimes feel that my partner and I would get more engagement from playing virtual card games together over the phone than from using the app for extended periods. Expanding the prompt library, adding more categories, and increasing customization options would make Candle a much more engaging experience for couples who use it regularly.

I really enjoy the app. My partner and I love the features including the questions and gaming. It’s a nice thing to have for the pass time but while these are wonderful, it does have its drawbacks. I love the drawing feature, it’s fun but I find that not being able to maximize the drawing nor adjust the size like in Snapchat or instagram makes it hard especially if you draw big. Also there aren’t many color options either. The finger kiss feature is cute but it’s not that forgiving when it comes to getting near perfect alignment, we get 99% a lot and it gets a little frustrating. Finally the biggest grievance I have is the fact that it needs WiFi to work. I’m not always going to be home or connected so i obviously rely on my cell data to get things done. I’d like to participate when my partner wants to do some things while I’m out but I can because I’m “offline”. If there can be a way to have cellular data be a way to stay connected that would be wonderful. The point of the app is to stay connected when in long distances so the fact that it’s already a severed connection due to lack of WiFi is already misleading. Thank you
