Bottled: Message in a Bottle

I like the Bottled - Message in a bottle app. I have had a great experience using the platform. The concept is both unique and charming. It allows users to send messages in virtual bottles to people around the world. The app is user-friendly and makes it easy to create and customize your message before sending it off to the sea of recipients. What I loved most was the element of surprise. You receive messages from other users which adds a sense of connection and adventure. The interface is visually attractive with beautiful simple graphics that add to the overall experience. Plus you have the option to explore messages based on location which adds an engaging twist. I also like the diary feature which allows users to post passages to the community and friends for them to like and comment on. I highly recommend the app for people looking to make connections from around the world.

This app is really great! I love nearly everything about it. It’s amazing to be able to connect with a random person around the world, learn about peoples cultures, have them teach you their language, tell you what their life is like, and of course, their interests and hobbies. I’ve made so many great friends with this app. However… I feel like the guidelines are a bit too strict and don’t really allow people to be able to express themselves very freely. Things that go against the rules include words of endearment such as “honey” or “dear” (I don’t call people this but I saw these examples in the rules). It’s also technically against the guidelines to compliment someone. Obviously trading inappropriate messages or photos isn’t allowed, and this is understandable. You also can’t trade more prominent information to connect with someone long term. For example, you aren’t allowed share your Instagram, Facebook etc, or your phone number with people. I feel like this app is great in concept, but the vague and kind of strict guidelines don’t really allow for or encourage open conversation or long term meaningful connections. Overall I recommend it, but I feel like the emphasis of the app is really to just kill time with strangers for a few minutes rather than make lifelong friends.

I stumbled across this application following some nostalgia fueled remembrance of a former similar application on the original iPhone. That application had you receiving random bottles on your virtual beach, and starting correspondence based on those initial bottles. Exceptionally similar, although I’m not sure if they’re related, this application expands on that concept in many ways, allowing you to exchange photos to compliment your dialogue. I also appreciate how this application sternly promotes a positive environment, and warns against unwanted sexual advances or harassment. This further promotes genuine, kind hearted dialogue with persons abroad that allows you to share cultural and geographic nuances, which overall can enhance the users perspective of the world we share. Purchases are available to slightly enhance the experience, but are in no way necessary or forced upon you by the developer, which is greatly appreciated. For that reason, I intend to make a small but needless purchase just to show my appreciation for the application and its developers. I’ve used this application to replace my social media use, and share meaningful interactions around the world. 10/10; would toss a bottle into the abyss again.
