To begin, I bought the half price caper bundle so I got 5 games, including Yestertide which I completed last (and am very happy I did!) Yestertide is by far the best game in the bundle. It is very long, difficult and honestly very fun to play. While I did enjoy the other games, this one just hit different. I saw a few reviews mention how difficult it is and that the website with hints doesn’t help sometimes. I found this to be inaccurate, as I used the hints A LOT. For all the games, but especially for this one. The hints very much gave you the answers directly. I think what trips people up, is that sometimes the hints and/or answers are spread across several sections (questions?) so you have to read 2 or 3 to figure out what to do. Personally, I enjoyed there being a dedicated website with hints vs in-game hints or having to watch a video. I also appreciated that you could get a simple hint to point you in the right direction, or you could read the entire solution and get the answer. So props to the developer! The game is difficult to navigate and can also trip you up. However, I personally found it enjoyable. It also was easier for me, as I played 4 other games with the same type of navigation prior to starting this one. I found this one to be way less confusing than some of the other games (talking about you, Beast of Bodkin Hall lol). I have only been playing point and click games for a little bit, but have been on a huge roll of playing all available. I would definitely recommend this game, and especially getting the bundle with all of them. Albeit, the other games included in the bundle are not nearly as noteworthy as Yestertide regarding length, difficulty, etc.
Having finished the game, I’ve edited my rating and review. (The navigation tripped me up throughout the game. The developer’s response made sense and I appreciate it, but I think muscle memory kept kicking in and I couldn’t remain aware of different navigation on different screens.) IN any case, I forgot how well written this developer’s games are and how humorous. =) They know you’re going to tap on everything and so everything does something and/or there’s a comment. The “puzzles” ranged from pretty clear to mind-bending. I used several hints and sometimes thought Doh!, other times wasn’t sure I would have figured it out. Def recommend. * * * I have played all of this developer’s previous games, so I bought this one immediately. I expect the content will be similarly excellent once I can stop being utterly confused about where I’m going. Touching the screen “ahead” might bring you ahead or it might turn you around. After playing for 10 minutes, there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason and I had to stop playing.
