I wouldn’t be so harsh if YachtWorld didn’t have a de facto monopoly on the used sailboat market. This app has one simple job: show a list of products, show details and pictures of individual products when clicked on, and most importantly - keep track of where the user was in the list when going back to the list. Instead we get pushed back to the top of the list every time because the developers can’t solve this monumental conundrum of computing? My peeps just store and update one variable representing the highest seen boat while scrolling and keep track of it, then show me that place in the list whenever I go back. If that’s too much, then when I’m viewing a specific boat and hit back to go to the list, at least put me at the place in the list where that specific boat is instead of the top. Also the filters don’t match the website (website is by region whereas app is by state). Pictures often don’t display correctly. Often I get “no results” for a search even though the blue button after setting filters says there will be results. Change one filter, search, change it back, search, and suddenly I now have results. Just pure untested jank.
I used to LOVE searching for boats on the Yachtworld website. The changes to the web version implemented about a year ago (?) and the poor functionality of this lame app are so disappointing. Hard to search for more than one model of boat at the same time. Filters are clunky and don’t always work, hence the 3-star review. However, it is still the most comprehensive compendium of yachts for sale, so you won’t be able to find what you are looking for if you don’t make this your foundation to anchor (no pun intended) your search and ability to compare boats of similar makes and models.
This app is awful. 1) There are numerous bugs. 1A) Location search is routinely ignored. I live in San Francisco, and have my search set to 1000 miles. I repeatedly get results from Rhode Island and Portugal. The location search feature is flat out broken. 1B) changing the hull material often results in 0 results. Once you get in this state you cannot get more results by changing the material back to something more popular. It just shows 0 results from that point on. 2) It seems like the search results are downloading full size images rather than thumbnails. Worse, the boat metadata doesn’t load until after the image finishes loading. This means that when you do a search, you wait forever just to see the boats, and you also get no info about the results until after the images load. 3) paid ads for boats that are clearly outside your price range can not be excluded. For instance, suppose you look for boats between $10 and $20,000. You will get many many ads for boats that are clearly beyond your price range. When your sort by date, you’ll be scrolling through dozens of boats that don’t apply to you even though you’ve explicitly set a price range with concrete upper and lower price bounds, these boats have no price data and are clearly all million dollar boats. In short I’ve never experienced an app with more contempt for the user, and I highly recommend YachtWorld change app developers. Real boat folks stay away. I’ll stick to Latitude 38 classifieds thanks.
