This Old House

As other posters have mentioned, once in a video, there is no way to exit. On AppleTV the menu button just rewinds the video about 2 seconds - as if I’d hit the back arrow. I reported this issue a few years ago via email (via link found in the app) and they fixed this exact issue. So sad to see the exact same issue return a few years later. And even sadder that the Apple App Store validation process doesn’t catch this MAJOR usability bug. On the iPhone app, the support page has no words next to the links any longer, just white space. Though after clicking the links it does briefly show what the link does. And, like the AppleTV app, once you start a full screen video, there is no way to exist the video without force closing the app. Since the Roku purchase of TOH it seems quality has become the last thing they care about for all other platforms. I guess it’s time to vote with my $$ and cancel my subscription.

I learned of the app watching This Old House on free TV. I’ve trusted This Old House for many years. When they said it was absolutely free I thought this is great I can binge watch on some episodes were I missed a few shows. I downloaded the app. When I went to try it you have to sign up for their insider to see anything. I’m all out of signing up. Also, they give you the option about following your usage to other websites. It gives two options “Ask not to follow activity” and “allow to follow”. Not “No do not follow” but ask them not to. Unacceptable. It’s none of their business where I go and what I do. Signing up for their app shows things that I’m interested in so they should need to go to other places. I love This Old House but they lost a lot of my respect how’s the way their app is run.

This app works perfectly to binge-watch the shows on my latest-gen AppleTV. So, so much better than before the app existed. Content still does have to be Airplayed to my older AppleTV, using the TOH app on an iPad Mini 4. That setup is somewhat glitchy, but quitting/restarting the app on the iPad usually fixes it. The Insider subscription is money well spent, in my case. I’m semiretired and enjoy learning new things. I also like being able to have a halfway intelligent conversation with a contractor when I hire work out. “Two thumbs up—way up!”
