This app has been usable for years but the latest update is so bad it prompted me to write a review and beg the product team to reconsider their choices. The first problem is the history feature. I used to be able to click on “prepare” within a workout to view the lift and if I had any previous logs for it. Now this feature is moved to “history,” which in theory makes sense… except for two issues. 1- The history is not correct. For example, on the logged history for a given lift, it shows the weight I logged for my first set and not my last. This is not helpful when you are scrolling through at a glance. I want to see where I _ended_ a previous lift so I can track progress over time. 2- Coaches do not always write the workouts by selecting the lifts from the sugarwod database. So they may just quickly type “4x8 squat” instead of selecting “back squat” and adding in the rep scheme so that it properly links with the history database. What this means for the user is that now in these cases, there is no history shortcut to see what I have squatted before, also losing out on the formerly helpful 1RM estimation chart to quickly decide working sets. I understand that I can go back to home > barbell PRs > select the lift, but why make us take 3 clicks when it used to take just 1? Also, the 1RM estimation chart is now removed for lifts that you have never logged a 1rep scheme (ie if I’ve only logged a 3RM or 5RM….) Please bring this back as it was *extremely* useful.
The app used to be so good. And the features and such that made it so are still here, so in theory it’s a great app … but only when it works. Over the past several months, it seems to get worse and worse. It won’t load at times, choosing to just sit on the blue opening screen for several minutes before popping up with a message that there was an error, please try again. If you get into the app, clicking on the sections to enter your score or to see the scores of your gym-mates and fist bump, or navigate to different days to see the workout, or switch between gyms/programming … are all likely to do the same - sit for forever and then pop up with error, please try again. If you click on a gym-mates entry to see their comments or give them a fist bump (because the fist bump from the list is also finnicky and must be done very specifically or it also will open the entry, regardless of if you wanted to open it to see their potential commenting or not), in addition to guessing whether it loads at all, when/if it does load, 95% of the time it only partially loads. So you may see the first line of their commentary, and/or the fist bump button may or may not be there. Every single step of the app, if it works, takes an extended amount of time to do so, spinning for a while before finally loading the information you clicks on The ideas of the app are great. So many things I love about it. But I can only love those things when it works. Otherwise, it’s rather useless, as I can’t get to those functions in the first place. Very frustrating
If your sick and tired of being sick and tired about health, weight and the struggle with doing workouts solo or worried about getting started, well get over it and come join us. You’ll be encouraged, amazed and glad you decided to make a change. You come and do what you can. The process takes care of all your fears, the results will floor you. 4 months in and I can tell you I’m not the same physical person. I’m not going to tell you it’s easy, it’s not but when you start to see the results the challenging work outs make you want more, when you’re ready. I’m a fan I believe if you come in with an open mind, you’ll be a fan as well. You get a free week, what you gotta loose.
