The ability to take notes, and have the AI generate notes for you, is what makes this app amazing. If you take podcast listening seriously (like I do) and want to really comprehend, reflect, and compile information, this is the app. The ability to “chat” with the episode, and save that as a note it’s probably the best feature so far. For general use as a podcast app, it is as good or better than many others out there. I really like the way you can queue up episodes and sort them in your queue; something that was not very easy coming from Overcast. The app is still young, and I see a handful ways to easily improve (1. ability to export audio files, 2. more sorting/filtering snips at a top level, 3. ability export (copy/paste) the transcript, 4. personal “wrapped” style stats, 5. allow mapping of 2 different custom snip prompts [forward/backward], 6. I have more ideas, but that’s enough for a review), but I do see the developers actively making improvements and changes, which is a good sign. There are a couple of bigger, harder, development improvements I wish could take place (web/desktop access), but I understand that’s probably out of scope for a podcast app, and they already have ways to integrate/sync through desktop apps like Obsidian. However, if you are a heavy podcast listener, 900 minutes (15 hours) a month of AI processing credits is not enough, but you can request more in app (for free, for now). I re-up my AI minutes a few times a month. Would be willing to pay double, maybe triple, for unlimited minutes.
Last year, I was disappointed about this broken thing because it only allowed users to migrate into it but not export data. I sent an email to request to delete the account. As a result, the product team replied that there was no such function; the person in charge of operating account deletion went on vacation and you have to wait for half a month! After waiting for half a month, someone finally replied that your account had been successfully deleted. But after at least one year, in order to research on the new features of this product, I downloaded it back. I didn't make any operation, but I was logged in to the old account that should have been deleted more than a year ago! The playback record and subscription list are just there in my eyes. You never give the users the right to delete the account and you lie to you user? WHY? Back to the AI feature and the community curated snips: they are nearly unusable. Every single podcast is not processed so you have to use your paid hours to process, which is TWICE the price as whisper AI if you know how to invoke it from API. The taste of so called groups are just so philistine that you won’t want to listen to their snips if you value your time and brain so much that you use AI to process more knowledge. Don’t waste your time here because I have wasted mine to test. Twice.
Update: They just released an update that fixed all of the issues I had with with it. It’s now the best podcast app in the market. This is such an amazing app; however, the fact that the normal skip-back, triple-click behavior on AirPods has been overridden with the snip feature and with no option to change it is a complete deal breaker for me. I simply cannot go without the ability to replay the last 15 seconds of a podcast from my headphones. As anyone else who is easily distracted knows, skipping back to replay the last thing that was said is something that we do a countless amount of times… much more than taking snips. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the snip feature, but I don’t need it to be bound to my AirPods. Every time I take a snip, I have to adjust the start/end points a little bit anyways, so it doesn’t make sense for it to override a crucial AirPods feature when I most likely am going to have to open the app anyway to adjust the snip. Everything else about this app is worlds better than any other podcast app I’ve tried. The snip feature and AI are absolute game-changers, and even just the UI is so good. I’ve contacted them about this issue and am desperately waiting for them to implement some solution for this. I encourage any of you who also need the default triple-click behavior to reach out to them, so they will prioritize fixing it. Once they do, this will be the easiest 5 star review I could ever give. Until then though, it’s unusable for me, and I will have to continue with Overcast.
