Smash Kingdom : Action Defense

I looked past this game a bunch of times in favor of my usual genre choices previously. But I’ve been enjoying this one so far. It pushes you to leave a review, which is why I am doing this. Though I don’t like to be pushed away from my games, this one gets a 5 star regardless. Thanks guys!

The game starts you off with a good, rounded setting and deck of units. The initial push through the levels yields results and you quickly start getting more units and gold. It just… feels like it’s missing something. The gold economy seems a little weak, 20 gold per level and you need 2000 gold to get a lvl 2 castle. So by that logic, I should have a lvl 2 castle by level 100, right? Well, you need gold to upgrade your units so they can keep up with the enemy who is also upgrading. There just seems to be pieces missing or some method to getting gold to keep up that I’m unaware of. Ads aside, it seems like yet another tedious phone game.

The gameplay design and UI are both lovely. However, the monster arena is absolutely infuriating to play not due to enemy balancing, but the sheer VOLUME of enemies I have to face. What’s the point in developing a combat deck when the monsters get to release SIX ENEMIES at one time, especially high value ones. It’s impossible to strategise at all because of this and makes playing the monster arena feel more like getting a prostate exam rather than playing a game because of the near impossibility of it. Plus by making the PVP arena decks allow ~ONLY random cards~, the player is inhibited from not only designing a deck and playstyle they like, but it makes levelling up the monster arena and building a deck absolutely pointless. I’m really disappointed at the seemingly lack of foresight in game design, because the game was fantastic the first little but you play it.
